4 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
Discover how Rube Goldberg followed his dreams to become an award-winning cartoonist, inventor, and even an adjective in the dictionary in this inspiring and funny biographical picture book. Want to become an award-winning cartoonist and inventor? Follow your dreams, just like Rube Goldberg! From a young age, Rube Goldberg had a talent for art. But his father, a German immigrant, wanted Rube to have a secure job. So, Rube went to college and became an engineer. But Rube didnt want to spend his life mapping sewer pipes. He wanted to follow his passion, so Rube got a low-level job at a newspaper, and from there, he worked his way up, creating cartoons that made people laugh and tickled the imagination. He became known for his fantastic Rube Goldberg machinescomplicated contraptions with many parts that performed a simple task in an elaborate and farfetched way. Eventually, his cartoons earned him a Pulitzer Prize and his own adjective in the dictionary. This moving biography is sure to encourage young artists and inventors to pursue their passions.

I'm not sure how much younger students would appreciate this book without more background. I'd want to share his work with them. They may enjoy gazing at the illustrations, but you'd have to satisfy them with his work. It's a great book about perseverance and grit though. #kidlit #everybodybooks

Library book loot! I check them out before purchasing for my school library. My district gives me less than $4 per student each year to spend on books and supplies. It's not enough. #kidlit #let'mread #everybodybooks #supportpublicschools #supportlibraries

Tamra Ugh, $4 that‘s just terrible. It is so frustrating more is not invested in education. 4y
mandarchy @Tamra isn't it frustrating? Not everyone appreciates school libraries. I suspect the people who don't care are the people who never loved reading or research. 4y
Tamra @mandarchy true! I have this dream about donating monies for our local classroom libraries to expand diversity in their books. 😁 Maybe after my own kids are not draining my bank account. 4y

A thin biograhpy but jam-packed with rich vocabulary, illustrations, and STEAM concepts. For teachers & homeschoolers & sciencey parents, this book is an appealing way to introduce physics, engineering, and mechanics (and more that I can't think of at the moment). #dw2020reads #campreadalot2020

I love everything about this delightful & inspiring picture book about Rube Goldberg. The story of the man whose name is an adjective in the dictionary is fun & fascinating & sure to spark creativity in kids. Needless to say, I appreciate the shout out to cartoons & comics & their power to help us imagine the unlikely & even the impossible. Love this book & the encouragement to dream big & share ideas. And now I want to go build something!
