Life in Outer Space | Melissa Keil
15 posts | 17 read | 24 to read
Sam Kinnison is a geek, and he's totally fine with that. He has his horror movies, his nerdy friends, World of Warcraft - and until Princess Leia turns up in his bedroom, he won't worry about girls. Then Camilla Carter arrives on the scene. She's beautiful, friendly, and completely irrelevant to his plan. Sam is determined to ignore her, except that Camilla has a plan of her own - and he seems to be a part of it! Sam believes that everything he needs to know he can learn from the movies. But perhaps he's been watching the wrong ones.

This book was by no means bad...I just hate contemporary books. I really did try. The characters are likeable and the references to World of Warcraft and horror films are great...but I just find this genre so incredibly boring. It feels like I'm punishing myself by forcing myself to read it.

If you like contemporary, I'd def get this a shot.

#summerflingreads

tarabu42 I often get frustrated with contemporary fiction (unless they have quality historical flashbacks) - I read to escape my everyday, I don't want to read about people I could meet at the grocery store! 7y
SassenachTheBookWizard @tarabu exactly my feelings. 7y

My book for the Online Romance category of the #summerflingread challenge.

Zelma Curious how this one is. It's on my TBR but I'll wait and see your review before moving it up. 7y

I have a total crush on this book. It's so quirky & fun it has my inner teenager squealing with joy. Seriously though, I really, really enjoyed it. Sam & his friends are nerds...the kind of nerds who get beat up on a regular basis. Then in walks Camilla. She's smart, popular & for some reason seems to like Sam & his friends. This begins an unusual courtship that will have you laughing & shaking your head & crossing your fingers! A wonderful story.

That moment when you are trying to take a bookstagram photo on the staff room table and accidentally add way WAY too much milk to your tea...

Centique That's dedication for you! 😂😂😂 8y
Chachic What a cute teapot! Also the mug matches the books.👏👏 I've had a copy of Life in Outer Space for ages but still haven't read it yet. 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Centique, I'm a tea snob so the extra milk did cause some laughter in the staff room 😂 still a good cup of tea! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Chachic, lugged the mug into work specially 😂 thanks - it was the first teapot that I ever bought (now I'm addicted) it's a cute read with extra awesome chapter headings 8y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Thanks, bit of a bummer ruining a signed book 😕especially since a wet book is an easy target for mould - I'll wait and see how it dries and then either put it in plastic or in the recycling bin. I'll have to replace a library book too 😭 @Sarah83 @JacqMac @TrishB @LeahBergen @Bookladylinda @ValerieAndBooks 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @elkeo, tears on my pillow 😪🎧 8y
elkeOriginal Don't throw it away! Give it a chance. It is sad but 🤞maybe it won't mold and will just be a tad wavy... 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @elkeo, it's not good to risk it... one book with mould can easily turn into a mould ruined library... it'll probably go into the sealed zip lock bag with a book that I spilled tea on... 8y
julesG Here's what I would do: Put that book in a container filled with rice. That should draw out most of the water. Then there are these tiny sachets that come in shoe boxes, etc. They contain a hydrophilous agent. When the book has dried out in the rice, store it in an air tight container with some of those sachets, a few days should do the trick. (Bet you can get some for free at a shoe/clothes/bag/electronics shop.) 8y

I went to the book launch for The Secret Science of Magic (not yet on Litsy database) and it was lovely *except* I realised when I got home that she'd only spelt my name correctly in one book 😕

I think I can fix it, I just need a fine liner pen...

One of my favorite blurbs, by one of my fave authors about a book by another of my fave authors. #bestblurb #seasonsreadings2016

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ooh! An Aussie author! Also the first time I have shared my name with a character (she was a minor player and a plastic mean girl but still!) you might like Lili Wilkinson - this is my favourite one (so far) 8y
GlitteryOtters @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I haven't read any Lili Wilkinson yet, but I keep seeing her books referenced on lists and they sound interesting. She was definitely on my list of potential authors to purchase next time I ordered books from Australia. Stacking this title on my TBR list! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @GlitteryOtters, it's set in Melbourne (which is my part of the world). I'm excited for your next Aussie book buy (let me know if I can help - I sometimes order books for my friend in London that she can't access even though we are looking at the same website) 8y

I don't read much contemporary YA but who could resist the allure of a MC who believes that everything he needs to know about life can be found in movies? (What could go wrong? 😂) Also the first time I've ever seen a character with my name (she was a plastic mean girl but STILL)
