This is a solid crime thriller. Four friends visiting a remote island and only 3 return. For me it was the setting that resonated….Iceland. A perfect place for a murder..isolated and beautiful. My last overseas holiday before Covid hit was to Iceland in 2019. Such a wonderful destination!! Oh how I miss travel😍

My last two reads!
The Island is book 2 in the Hidden Iceland series- I really enjoy Hulda's character and I look forward to reading the final book soon!

I did enjoy The Murder Rule but it was VERY different from her Cormac McCarthy series. A little far-fetched but a good fast paced read!

Damn I wanted to love this. First chapter was awesome. Setting is incredible. But I just didn't connect. Maybe it was the translated prose? Or the staccato style to the chapters? Still, I'm intrigued by the Icelandic setting to try another one of his books.

You need to maintain a high level of trust when reading Ragnar Jonasson: trust that the seemingly unrelated stories will come together; trust that you‘ll really get to know all of the characters; and trust that the mystery WILL be solved.

Hulda Hermannsdotter is a great character. Be sure that you read THE DARKNESS, the first in the series, for her back story. We‘re told that the series is a trilogy. I hope there are more than that!

Enjoyed the story. Also I love Iceland and loved the descriptions.
Only thing a bit confusing was that two of the characters had similar names.
I read it in a day. Had to know how it ended. Not too bad really . The ending that is.

This is the second in the series following Hulda. This was a really good story once I got into it. It took some following at the beginning with various things happening especially the babysitting scene but it all comes together in the end. The plot was good and the murder interesting. I did figure it out before the end except one of the twists that was very clever.
I look forward to the next book.

Just started this ARC from netgalley.....Icelandic Noir.....

Cathythoughts I‘ve read some of his other books. Look forward to your thoughts 6y
rockpools Ooh. How is it so far? And do you think it works as a standalone? They‘ve just emailed me and my ‘No more ARCs til I have a 75% rating‘ plan is wobbling all over the place! (edited) 6y
Lel2403 @RachelO 😂 I‘d just got to 77% and this came along....so far it‘s very good....as it‘s a prequel to The Darkness I‘m sure it can be read as a standalone 6y
rockpools @Lel2403 😆👍Thank you! One day I‘ll make it out of the 60s (or 50s 😱). But this is tempting! 6y
