The master of heart-pounding suspenseNew York Times bestseller Phillip Margolinreturns with a new legal thriller starring Robin Lockwood. A young woman accuses a prominent local college athlete of rape. Convicted with the help of undisputable DNA evidence, the athlete swears his innocence and threatens both his lawyer and his accuser as he's sent to prison. Not long after, there's another rape and the DNA test shows that the same person committed both rapeswhich is seemingly impossible since the man convicted of the first rape was in prison at the time of the second one. Now, the convicted athlete, joined by a new lawyer, is granted a new trial and bail. Shortly thereafter, his original lawyer disappears and his law partner is murdered. Robin Lockwood is a young lawyer with a prestigious small law firm and a former MMA fighter who helped pay for Yale Law School with her bouts. She is representing the victim of the first rape for her civil lawsuit against her rapist, who is now convinced the rapist is stalking her and trying to intimidate her. At the same time, another client is up on a murder chargeone that should be dismissed as self-defensebut the D.A. trying the case is determined to bring it to trial. Now she has to mastermind two impossible cases, trying to find the hidden truth that links the two of them. Phillip Margolin, the master of the legal thriller, returns in one of his twistiest, most compelling crime novels yet.

It starts out well, but there are so many subplots and characters that it became jumbled. Great premise with twists. I‘ll try another Robin Lockwood in this series anyway.

Andrew65 Some do tend to over complicate themselves. Well done 👏👏👏 2y

I thought there was too much going on in this book. I wanted to read more about Randi and Blaine. I think the author had a good story there but he threw in so many other characters and other crimes that Randi and Blaine‘s story didn‘t get the attention that I think it needed.

If you liked the first Robin Lockwood book, you will like this one too! I really like the narrator Therese Plummer. She ends up on a lot of the books I listen to! This one is intriguing because it has some ripped-from-the-headlines plot points and at times makes you question your view of the justice system and what justice is in certain circumstances. I‘m assuming there will be a third one and I will listen to that one too!

MrBook Great review! 5y

Highly recommend. A young teen accused a popular college athlete of rape. He is convicted but is he actually guilty? Many twists in the story make it suspenseful.

Great book!!! Quick read, twists and turns, unreliable characters. I really enjoy the main character Robin!!! Hope to see more of her in future books.

This was an episode of Law & Order in a book. Quick read and intriguing plot. You will be introduced to tons of characters so attention to detail will be required. Overall score 4.5/5.0

Lots of murder, lies, &misdirection takes place here &it‘ll keep readers guessing. There are multiple crimes committed throughout this book &there are times I felt it was a bit too much, but it does come together at the end.

It read almost like a cozy mystery but maybe a tad darker. I thought the two rape cases would be the focal point, but they weren‘t. While I found the plot compelling, I felt the execution needed some work.
