Two Can Keep a Secret
Two Can Keep a Secret | Karen McManus
Ellery's never been to Echo Ridge, but she's heard all about it. It's where her aunt went missing at age sixteen, never to return. Where a Homecoming Queen's murder five years ago made national news. And where Ellery now has to live with a grandmother she barely knows, after her failed-actress mother lands in rehab. No one knows what happened to either girl, and Ellery's family is still haunted by their loss. Malcolm grew up in the shadow of the Homecoming Queen's death. His older brother was the prime suspect and left Echo Ridge in disgrace. His mother's remarriage vaulted her and Malcolm into Echo Ridge's upper crust, but their new status grows shaky when mysterious threats around town hint that a killer plans to strike again. No one has forgotten Malcolm's brother-and nobody trusts him when he suddenly returns to town. Ellery and Malcolm both know it's hard to let go when you don't have closure. Then another girl disappears, and Ellery and Malcolm were the last people to see her alive. As they race to unravel what happened, they realize every secret has layers in Echo Ridge. The truth might be closer to home than either of them want to believe. And somebody would kill to keep it hidden.

Echo Ridge is a small town that Ellery and her brother Ezra, are both sent to live in. They share their home with their estranged grandmother. The town is only famous for one thing - teenage girls going missing or found dead.
Homecoming at high school is a deadly season, another girl goes missing so Ellery starts digging. Not into just the missing girls past but her own mothers too. Fast paced, full of details and definitely mysterious. 4🌟

I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn‘t exactly a nail biter, but it kept my attention. A solid mystery with some twists and turns.

Karen M. McManus‘s standalone YA crime mystery is an entertaining page turner with plenty of twists and red herrings and I liked the dual narration from Ellery and Malcolm as it helped maintain pace. However, I guessed who dunnit far too early and while there‘s an ending to the book, it isn‘t a wholly satisfying resolution, not least because the killer‘s motives are so under drawn while the fall out from the reveal is rather glossed over.

This is the second book of Karen McManus that I have read, and have enjoyed! Again it mixes two of my favorite genres crime and teen drama. Kept me reading to find out what happened and how it was all connected.

Im being honest here, the first time I read this book, I thought to myself: umm, it's not as good as her first book, is it, and I'd assume a lot of people had thought the way I did. but after reading it over again, I found this book interesting: about 20 years passed in this book, therefore lack of details is the last thing this book has. As you pay attention to every sentence and read it thoroughly, you can see the whole picture thought the book.

This book was fine, for me- a slow reader- it was a quick read and quite entertaining. However, I didn‘t find the characters anywhere near as well rounded as One of Us is Lying or the story as intriguing. Still, I managed to actually read this book when my tired brain has been struggling to read anything so it must be doing something right!

Not a bad YA as YA's go, certainly one I'm sure many 13-15 year olds would enjoy. I teach this age group and therefore read these kind of texts sometimes, not literature but good enough.

This one is okay, but I don‘t think it‘s as good as ‘One of Us is Lying‘. Maybe I read too many of this type of book, but I could see the twists coming. A quick, entertaining read but a tad predictable. 3.5🌟

Had a lovely weekend away camping. Didn't get much reading time in but I did finish this. It was ok nothing special and not as good as her previous book.

⭐⭐⭐

JoyBlue Bummer! I was hoping it would be at least as good as the first. 5y
my.books.in.squares @JoyBlue it didn't feel very original. It was pretty similar to 'The Cheerleaders' by Kara Thomas and I wasn't a huge fan of that either. You might disagree though, be sure to let me know what you think once you read it 🙂 5y

When checking categories for book genres I enjoy, I haven‘t marked YA. Maybe I should. I‘ve read or audio‘d these books in the last year and liked each one.

CoffeeNBooks One of Us is Lying was so good! I haven't read Two Can Keep a Secret yet. 6y
marleed @CoffeeNBooks without giving a thing away here‘s my favorite line: Ezra watches them leave with a bemused expression, then turns to me. “I have a really strong feeling that on Wednesdays, they wear pink.” 6y

I find this murder mystery very enjoyable and absorbing. Well-paced, twisty story and with realistic characters I can care about. The teenage relationship was sweet and did not make me roll my eyes. A strong follow up to the author‘s debut, One Of Us Is Lying (though this is not a series) in fact I liked this more, and the ending gave me a surprising gasp. I look forward to read her next book (hurry up)👍👍👍👍

I flew through this one in a couple of hours. This one, after a bit of a slow start, is just as good as her first book, One Of Us Is Lying. Twins Ellery & Ezra Corcoran move to their mother‘s hometown after she‘s put in rehab. Now living with their nana, Ellery becomes obsessed with the murders of 2 local girls, 15yrs apart. Then another girl goes missing. My #LitsyAtoZ2019 #LetterT & #Pop19 #PopSugarReadingChallenge2019 #BookToldFromMultiplePOVs

Honestly hands down the best book in my collection so far. I‘m easily pleased when it comes to murder, cover ups and romance and this book has it all. Ellery and Malcom are endgame. The only extra detail I thought wasn‘t needed was Ezra. He was the only character that didn‘t really grow on me. Great book 5/5 stars would recommend! x
