Just started this. What‘s your current read?
This debut takes one fact in history, an eclipse in 1914 Russia and tells a story of the peril of Russian Jews before WW2. She mixes Einsteins relativity with the story of Miri who has been educated to become a surgeon. Science with history with a love triangle. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wonderful story, so well written. History, science and unconventional romance combined beautifully in this novel. So glad I read this. Thanks @Avanders for sending me a book that otherwise might have languished on my TBR. Highly recommend. Picture is of a plant called yesterday, today and tomorrow, and I think that name fits with this book perfectly.
I‘m just a couple chapters in, and I‘m hooked!

I LOVED this book. Miri is a surgeon at a time when few women were. Her brother Vanya is trying to complete Einstein‘s Theory of Relativity. WWI breaks out. There‘s action, romance, bravery, science, history, hope. And it‘s set in Russia (always a plus for me.) I wish for an afterward that takes us through the obviously extensive research the author did.
A Bend in the Stars is a riveting book. My only quibble with A Bend in the Stars is that it doesn‘t have an afterword in addition to Barenbaum‘s Q &A explaining the science or history in the book in more detail, and I had a lot of questions by the time I finished reading. Visit pickingbooks.com/blog/a-bend-in-the-stars for the answers to some of the biggest questions I had.
#AyUpAugust #UnderneathTheStars We are all so connected ~ The other day this tagged book was featured as a local debut author at the Philly bookstore I visited with @MicheleinPhilly 🎉 I pointed out the book to Michele, because the author, Rachel Barenbaum spent this past year living in Israel in the same city, I live in. I had no idea Rachel Barenbaum is a Philly native. Unfortunately I wasn‘t able to hear her speak in either Philly or Israel.
Today‘s #bookhaul is set in #Russia in 1914 so I was powerless against its charms. Who else is reading this one?
