A journey through the inbetween places of the British landscape to the bleak coast, 'Kingdom' follows a family on their holiday to a small caravan park, where teenager Andrew explores the dunes, and half-remembered stories from the past are shared.0Once again, Jon McNaught creates a beautiful graphic novel that makes the ordinary, extraordinary.

#NewYearNewYou Day 15: Kenneth, the newest member of GatheringBooks shares about this graphic novel road trip #adventure of one family, done mostly in wordless panels. As he noted: “Kingdom captures the journey of a mother bringing her son and daughter to re-create similar trips taken when she was a child, to a caravan park, and a visit to a relative, in painstaking detail.” Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-ln0

A slice-of-life #graphicnovel following a family on their trip to the beach the mom remembers from her childhood. Follows mostly the teenage son‘s perspective and seems to highlight the difference in a vacation now, with cell phones and video games, from the mom‘s childhood experience. Slow and quiet but effective.

The art is lovely
but...
Not a lot of words.
Not a lot happens.
Not sure what I just read.
Not a pick for me.
