Deep End of the Ocean | Jacquelyn Mitchard

"Masterful...A big story about human connection and emotional survival" - "Los Angeles Times" The first book ever chosen by Oprah's Book Club Few first novels receive the kind of attention and acclaim showered on this powerful story a nationwide bestseller, a critical success, and the first title chosen for Oprah's Book Club. Both highly suspenseful and deeply moving, "The Deep End of the Ocean" imagines every mother's worst nightmare the disappearance of a child as it explores a family's struggle to endure, even against extraordinary odds. Filled with compassion, humor, and brilliant observations about the texture of real life, here is a story of rare power, one that will touch readers' hearts and make them celebrate the emotions that make us all one."

I read this before I had children and it haunted me raising them. #mothersstory #bibliomaynia

AmyK1 I read this right after I had my first-bad idea. lol Only book I‘ve wanted to throw across the room. 5y
OriginalCyn620 I haven‘t read it and probably shouldn‘t since I know what it‘s about! 5y
DimeryRene @elisebarker The description says this was Oprah‘s first ever book club pick. 🤯🤯 4y

I've started something new ~ visiting & documenting my visits to Little Free Libraries. This library had audiobooks 🎧& dog biscuits 🐶. Best part...my husband was almost as excited as I was.

ImperfectCJ Audiobooks... that's cool! On CD? (I think that's the only way that would work for a Little Free Library, but it's possible there's some other way of doing it that I haven't thought of.) 5y
ljuliel Pretty cool that they have audiobooks too. I recently bought a portable CD player to listen to audiobooks on cd. You can find them for a really good deal sometimes, or of course, free at the library ! That‘s neat that you‘re keeping a record of all the ones you visit. Make sure and post photos. I‘ve been to a few in nearby towns. We don‘t have lots of them in our area, but we live in a sparse area for big towns. 5y
Princess-Kingofkings @ImperfectCJ yes, on Cd~I'll definitely be watching for deals so I can include some in my library. I think it is a great idea. 5y
Crazeedi @Princess-Kingofkings nichole that is so darling, and just the neatest little library! Awesome!! 5y

Ben was kidnapped. For Beth this is #WhenTheLeveeBreaks

Day 19 of #MayMovieMagic with #WhenTheLeveeBreaks #BookToMovie

@Rohit-sawant @Cinfhen

Cinfhen I remember the film 😢😢😢 6y
Cinfhen Is it still raining by you??? More homework to do 😉 6y
marleed @Cinfhen Michelle Phifer was more likable in the film than Beth in the book. I was thinking this would have been a good response to a question earlier this week about unlivable protagonists! ... Rain reprieve so I better get some miles for the CFN. Good thing I have tomorrow‘s pick ready! 6y

Never hated a main character as much as this one. The farther in the book I get the more I can‘t stand her

#ReadingResolutions - Depth: This book had mad hype after selection for the Oprah Winfrey Book Club. Keeping up with her book recommendations was one of my favorite reading commitments. But I could not read this book past the description of this mother‘s pain and the depth of her despair. Still to this day books about missing children are always a pass. Maybe one day?!

It's been a while since I read this but I from what I remember I didn't really like it, the main character really got very annoying as the book progressed. #maybookflowers #bodyofwater

GoldenGirl I saw the movie a few years ago and while I felt for her and can't imagine something like that happening to me, she still got on my nerves. 8y
MyNamesParadise I really liked the movie but idk if I'd be able to get through the book. 8y

I was obsessed with this book when it first came out for some reason. I must have been about 16. I remember being totally gripped by the story of the Cappadoras dealing with a missing child. Also had a bit of a crush on the troubled older brother. The father in this book is Italian-American; he's the manager of his family's Italian restaurant, I think. Pretty sure there were #scenesfromanItalianrestaurant. Or at least one 😅 #rockinmay
@Cinfhen

Cinfhen I remember all the hype surrounding this book! Especially when Oprah choose it for her bookclub! I'm pretty sure I saw the movie with Michelle Pfeiffer...it was good! 8y
Literaryunicorn Yes! I was obsessed with this too!!! 8y
batsy @Cinfhen Oh yeah, there was a movie! I didn't watch it coz I wasn't pleased with the casting of the older brother 😂 @Literaryunicorn It's one of those compulsively readable books! 8y
