4/5 ⭐
Mi è piaciuto, ma non mi sono sentita emotivamente connessa ai personaggi come con altre storie di questo tipo. Forse però dipende da me e non dal libro, visto che è stato così anche con l'ultimo che ho letto.

Grief is never ending. Grace “Tiger” Tolliver discovers this following the death of her mother. Grief changes the way others see her and the way she sees herself. Grace battles harmful thoughts and attempts to stay afloat in the foster care system. Grace becomes another person and becomes more aware of the hidden grief around her. Great writing, plot, and characters.
"Sometimes I feel like those guys in that weird play Hoffmeister made us read.
I think about what those two odd guys said.
You must go on.
I can‘t go on.
You must go on.
Because what other choice is there, really?
You have to make friends with the dark."

I have fallen in love with Kathleen Glasgow and her words and her characters and their lives all over again. I adore Tiger Tolliver and Cake and Thaddeus and all the other misfits and good-looking, good-smelling, girl and boy bugs. This story will always be a favorite and I urge anyone and everyone to pick up this and any and every story Kathleen Glasgow writes. 💜✌🏻
Here‘s what happens when your mother dies. It‘s the brightest day of summer and it‘s dark outside. It‘s dark in your house, dark in your room and dark in your heart. You feel like the darkness is going to split you apart.
This book really broke my heart. Tiger is only 16 when her mother suddenly passes away. I loved the way this author wrote about grief while also highlighting all the children who are wards of the state.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Sometimes you‘re so hungry, so thirsty for something to fill you up, you‘ve craved it for so long, but when you finally have it, it hurts going down. It‘s not a medicine for what ails you. It might just be the thing that is keeping you sick.”
Now I'm starting a new book: How to Make Friends with the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow!
Her book “Girl in Pieces“ is one of my absolute complete favorites; I immediately fell in love with her love for the written word. 💜✌🏻
Okay maybe not the peppiest book to read during a pandemic, but this YA novel about a girl whose mother dies suddenly is a well-written look at the corrosive nature of grief. #covid19readathon
In the author's note, Glasgow says this "is, above all, a book about grief. This is a book about learning how to go on, about finding your way in the dark."
I recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone who has ever (or never) lost someone close to them. We can all find ourselves in Tiger's character. Glasgow tells it like it is!
"There will always be unknowable things and we have to make peace with that."
"...This whole place is swimming with pain."
"Mean girls multiply like guinea pigs the older you get."
"You can't just pretend color doesn't matter because you think it shouldn't, because you were born with white skin and privilege. And you can't pretend not to notice racism..."
"...because if there's anything teenagers love more than jumping to conclusions and creating drama... well, there isn't anything we love more than jumping to conclusions and creating drama."
Oh my. Heartbreaking story of a teen trying to survive losing her Mom. Job well done by the author. I teared up many times. Very accurate account of grief and trying to learn to live with it.
Heartbreaking YA read, that will have you in a puddle on the floor.
Urghhhh.....
It wasn't until well over half way through until I got past the feeling that I was wasting my life reading this book.
Teenage girl experiences a sad and life altering event, and we all get to feel her pain.
I'm sure there will be some people for whom this book will give language to their feelings and help them feel seen and known, but for me it was just urghhh.....
Library day = happy day 📚
Went to the shore in nj with weekend and got some great reading done. This one was a ya about grief and family.
This book broke my heart. Kathleen Glasgow did such an amazing job putting the hurt of losing a parent into this story. 😭💔
My B&N #bookhaul from today. Had to go shopping for my husband so I decided to treat myself!
I just really love this cover. It caught my eye as soon as I strolled down the book isle. Also can I just say that The Darkness and I are quite familiar with one another 😆😈🤘book number 37 of my year
So this is what happens when I go into Target to buy my grandkids something for Easter...oh well, happy Easter to me🤷🏼♀️
This book was devastating. Kathleen Glasgow really took you inside Tiger‘s head and made you feel all the pain and grief she was feeling. It was extremely well written and compelling. All the characters leapt off the pages.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Almost every chapter in this book made me cry. In fact, I almost couldn‘t finish it because I couldn‘t see the words through my tears. If you‘ve lost someone you love or want to understand the grief of a friend or family member, then you have to read this book.
