If You're Going to a March
If You're Going to a March | Martha Freeman
4 posts | 4 read
"If you're going to a march, you're going to want a sign"--and this cheerful, introductory handbook. Inspired by author Martha Freeman's own experiences, it addresses many of the questions kids might have: What should I wear? How will I get there? Where can I go to the bathroom? Is it okay to dance? (It is!). All the while the text focuses on our Constitutional right as Americans to assemble . . . whatever our political point of view.

This book would be great to introduce students to politics and activism.

Picture book - This book introduces children to activism, but does not portray the reasons of going to a march. This book gives advice on what a young marcher might expect and how to prepare.

This book focuses on the how-tos of attending a march for children. Cutely illustrated, but the audience feels like progressive parents who want to take their kids to a march and need to explain it to them, rather than kids who are interested in going to a march of their own volition. That's fine - sometimes if parents want to do something, kids have to come along for the ride, but it seemed specific. I would‘ve preferred the whys to the hows.
