Nancy Drew 40: The Moonstone Castle Mystery
Nancy Drew 40: The Moonstone Castle Mystery | Carolyn Keene
7 posts | 14 read | 1 to read
When Nancy Drew receives a valuable moonstone as a gift from an unknown person, she is amazed and puzzled. But it is only the first of several startling events in this complex mystery that challenge the ingenuity of the pretty sleuth. Why are the Bowens a missionary couple who recently returned to the United States having so much trouble finding their missing seventeen-year-old granddaughter, Joanie Horton? Nancy and her friends travel to Deep River, the town where the young Jonie lived. From the motel where Nancy and her friends stay, they can see an intriguing castlelike structure with a drawbridge. Gossipy Mrs. Hemstead at the village tearoom insists that Moonstone Castle is haunted. Curious, the three girls attempt to explore the abandoned castle, but an ominous voice warns them away. Other strange happenings in Deep River convince Nancy that there is a connection between Moonstone Castle and the mysterious moonstone gift. But what is the significance? And where does the baffling disappearance of Joanie Horton fit into the intricate puzzle?

A re- read of my middle school copy on the 90th anniversary of the Nancy Drew mystery series. Just as I‘d remembered: neat, sweet and comfortably dangerous - including the handsome and pointedly college-aged boyfriends.

#NancyDrew is always a safe bet for me. I admit that The Witch Tree Symbol was a little meh (stolen antique tables...boring), but the mystery in this book was much more exciting. Who knew fraud could be dangerous!

Normally I read these in order, but I made an exception for this one because it fit the birthstone prompt for #ReadYourSign.

4/5 books completed.

Ruthiella I have fond memories of checking these books out from the library...and it‘s still a thrill to see those yellow spines!😍 4y
Sace @Ruthiella as a child, I only owned a few and checked many out from the library, but I always wanted a complete set of my very own. I'm proud of my set 😁 (granted I *said* it was for my daughter...) 4y

I feel like I'm in a slumplet. Not a full blown slump, but easily distracted the last couple of days. My #bookspin book requires more concentration than I can give it right now, so I'm opting for some fluff from my #ReadYourSign options.

SpiderGoddess Nancy Drew will forever remain a favourite. 🖤 4y
Sace @SpiderGoddess it's always my go to when reading feels hard. 🤣 4y

It will perhaps come as no surprise to hear that I was quite the Nancy Drew devotee, in my youth. It's the first series I remember earnestly collecting and a handful of very special ones belonged to my grandma, who died when I was in kindergarten. These are a small part of my collection. #riotgrams #welllovedreads

AlaMich I have two boxes of the yellow hardcovers in my basement. I have fond memories of going to Brentano's to see if there was a new one yet 😊 7y
laytonwoman3rd I read The Clue of the Leaning Chimney 13 times! I wish I still had that copy. 7y
