This was a nice, light, easy read. Melinda loses her job and goes back to the small town where she grew up, to help her aunt and uncle. She rents an old farmhouse and agrees to take care of the livestock and gardens. She learns a lot about herself and her tenacity in the face of uncertain circumstances.

This is not a romance story. Goodreads calls this “heartwarming rural fiction” and I totally agree. Melinda is at a crossroads in life after losing her job and temporarily moving to rural Iowa to help run the family business. There is a farm with animals, a garden, and renovation to the farmhouse and I loved it. I loved the community and its residents, so kind and helpful. No stress, no drama. Just easy reading. Perfect for bedtime.

Since I finished the latest in the Lakeside Resort series by Susan Schild, I‘ve been looking for something similar for easy, no-drama, stress-free reading. I started this one which is the first in a series. Melinda is laid off from her job in the city and ends up renting a farm out in the country. There is gardening, animals, and a small town hardware store. So far, it‘s super charming. I‘m about halfway through.
