In the Footsteps of Popes
In the Footsteps of Popes: A Spirited Guide to the Treasures of the Vatican | Enrico Bruschini
1 post | 2 to read
A unique look at the treasures of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and the Basilica of Saint Peter from an official guide of the Eternal City. In a tiny enclave in the heart of Rome lies the world's smallest independent statethe Vatican. Over the course of fifteen hundred years, successive popes have commissioned and assembled an extraordinary collection of artistic works within Vatican walls. Eminent expert Professor Enrico Bruschini takes readers on a fascinating personal tour through the Vatican's magnificent sacred halls, vividly bringing to life works by Raphael, da Vinci, Caravaggio, Michelangelo, and many others, while sharing interesting curiosities about the artists, their art, and the historical context in which they worked. Bruschini's unprecedented access to areas rarely open to the public enables him to offer a unique behind-the-scenes tour that reveals the Vatican's most intimate secrets and hidden treasures. With maps and rare photographs from the Vatican archives, In the Footsteps of Popes is an extraordinary excursion that is not to be missed.

Another library weeding rescue, this is a travelogue/guide to some of the treasures found at the Vatican. This is probably the closest I will ever get to the Vatican. This was also published in 2001, so it is nearly 20 years old. Since this is the home base for the Catholic Church, I squeezed this in to fit the #MarysBoyChild prompt. #WinterWonderland

TrishB It‘s a good squeeze! Rome is on my bucket list! 6y
mrsmarch @TrishB @Librarybelle I‘ve been to both the Vatican and Rome. The former is mind blowing and the latter is riotous and lovely. If I could have Rome‘s food and Florence‘s architecture I could die happy. 6y
mrsmarch @TrishB @Librarybelle If you ever hear I‘ve won mega millions, make sure you have your passports. On the list after paying off mortgages and loans is buying a flat in Rome. I‘m going to house an art student there free of charge part of the year (the only cost to them will be a piece of their work) and will spend a month or two there yearly. 6y

mrsmarch @TrishB @Librarybelle Like Amy March, Rome will either make them or break them. Hopefully I can open up opportunities for young artists by putting a roof over their heads. That‘s me, art patronness! 6y
DivineDiana @mrsmarch What a fantastic plan! 6y
DivineDiana @Librarybelle A few years ago, I took a group of students to Italy. The Vatican took my breath away! Decided I must know more about the art of the Vatican! Stacked! 6y
Librarybelle @DivineDiana I am so captivated by it...between pictures I‘ve seen and documentaries. It has to be breathtaking! 6y
