Static Ruin
Static Ruin | Corey J. White
5 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
Corey J. White concludes his pulse-pounding space opera in Static Ruin. As the most wanted voidwitch in the galaxy has no place left to run—except back to those who created her. She killed the man who trained her. She killed the fleet that came for her. She killed the planet that caged her. Now she must confront her father. Mars Xi is on the run, a bounty on her head and a kill count on her conscience. All she has left are her mutant cat Ocho and her fellow human weapon Pale, a young boy wracked by seizures who can kill with a thought. She needs him treated, and she needs to escape, and the only thread left to pull is her frayed connection to her father, Marius Teo. That thread will take her to the outskirts of the galaxy, to grapple with witch-cults and privately-owned planets, and into the hands of the man who engineered her birth. The Voidwitch Saga #1 Killing Gravity #2 Void Black Shadow #3 Static Ruin At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

This was great but the end felt open to new adventures. I hope this story goes on as a series.

Mehso-so

I‘m torn between a pick & a so-so. I was intrigued by the set-up, but this felt less polished than previous novellas. There‘s less gore, but less introspection than I hoped. Ultimately these books aren‘t subtle, less a tale of self discovery or redemption, more a cornered monster‘s fight for her freedom. Still, an entertaining diversion.

🧬Story is about MC facing a bit of her history.
🧬Less action for more narrative development.
🧬The paced focus on Mars learning about her past & confronting long-held fears was excellent.
🧬The growth I wanted wasn‘t as progressive as I‘d hoped, but it‘s still very well-written & fits trilogy overall.
🧬Bittersweet finale was a near perfect complement to everything that happened.
🧬Fabulously crafted universe.
🧬AI w/kick-ass persona.
🧬4.5/5

Ah, I love how vulgarly honest this book is. And funny. It‘s so inappropriately hilarious.
