Book 60🎧 3⭐️

Quick listen (3hrs) from Mira Grant - very thought provoking given the current world🦠

Morris disease has taken over and Dr Izzy has been trying to contain it since Patient 0. How far will she go to protect those around her?

Zamyah I LOVE Mira Grant! 3y
BeeMagical @lirahlu me too! I love how much backstory she gives to the virus‘s before the book “starts” - love a good ground work👌🏼😂 3y

This is a pre pandemic novella that is scarily similar to what is currently happening. The only critique I have is that I wanted more! I feel there‘s so much story left.

The title of this book is misleading. It's not a fantasy. It's a dystopian novel and it's terrifying. One of the pandemic books I read during the pandemic. 5 ⭐s

What an amazing book! Difficult to read during a pandemic given the subject matter but over all just truly fascinating. I hope there will be more to this story in the future. Mira Grant is beyond an amazing author.

Hi my name is Lauren. I like to treat/torture myself by eating Nashville hot chicken sandwiches spiced “Hot” & rereading Seanan McGuire pandemic novels/novellas while living through a worldwide pandemic.

got this as a freebie a bit back. it's an alright novella focusing on the aftermath of a massive pandemic worsened by anti-vaccination sentiment. some of the logistics were odd to me and I felt like there was both too much and too little going on for the scale the author was going for.

Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant is a Master with words. She knows how to pack a lot into a few pages, and how to make the reader think and wonder about what she wrote. At least that the effect she has on me. Although, I did wish for a bit more insight into the characters‘ thoughts and feelings, but overall a good read!

monalyisha Terrifying cover! 😱 Glad you enjoyed! I almost bought myself a copy of Middlegame last night at the bookstore, but I couldn‘t bring myself to spend $30 on a hardcover. Yikes! 5y
alisiakae I only just now realized that Mira Grant and Seanan McGuire are the same person! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Holy wow — that cover! Great job on the prompt. 📚♥️👊🏻 5y
Reggie I seem to not like the Seanan McGuire books version of her. But whenever she shows up in a short story anthology you remember her story. Out of how many there are, I always remember hers. 5y

A horror story and a studied critique of the anti-vaccine movement.
Lisa, an 8 year old is enjoying a family vacation in Florida when she begins to feel I'll.
This was so interesting to read, and is so plausible....I loved the premise and it definitely made me reconsider my stance on anti vaccine. I can now see the horrible ramifications because of the ignorance of the few. Herd Immunity is discussed.
Important. Recommended.

Oh my gosh, I went into this just expecting another pandemic-esque story and got so much more! I was completely enthralled by this novella and couldn‘t put it down until I finished. What a terrifying look at the potential horrors of anti-vaccination propaganda! And as always with Mira Grant‘s (Seanan McGuire) works, the characters are all equally intriguing and absorbing.

January 2019 reads roundup! Tagged book was read on #kindle. Total of ten books, far better than I could have anticipated when I set my goal of 52 books for the year. No audiobooks in January, but I tend to do more of those when I‘m doing more #audiowalking during non-frigid weather.

I‘m curious: when y‘all meet a reading goal, do you revise and bump your goal up or just keep reading and see by how much you surpass your original goal?

TheLibrarian I keep mine the same and then the following year I‘ll bump it up. 6y
CatAndKindle I keep reading and enjoy not having a deadline. I read some of the longer books 📚 sitting on my tbr 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf I keep it the same. I usually set it lower so I don‘t have to feel stressed about it and see how many additional books I can read. 6y

lauren.lerner That‘s what I‘ve been doing the last few years, @TheLibrarian. I barely hit 52 last year which is why I made it my goal again this year. 6y
lauren.lerner I like these outlooks, @irre & @CatAndKindle. Definitely feels good to read above and beyond with less pressure! 6y

Got a late start reading today but I finally had the chance to finish The Girl Who Drank the Moon. What an incredible and beautiful tale — I will be thinking about it for some time to come & I‘m sure it will be reread more than once. ✨

Next up for #24in48, a taste of Seanan McGuire‘s darker side. I love the work she writes as Mira Grant & I‘m sure this one will be no different. I have a full water bottle and my husband is on baby duty. Onward!

An interesting take on the vaccine/no vaccines debate. What happens when compromised herd immunity opens the door to a new form of measles that has devastating effects on the survivors? I don‘t want to give too much away, but it is so easy to see how some of the uglier behavior in this book could happen. I love Mira Grant (Seanan McGuire) and the attention to detail she gives to the science in her horror stories A great start to 2019!

LauraJ Sounds like something I would like! Stacking 🖤 6y

Books from some of my favorite authors and noise cancelling headphones. My husband knows and loves me! And Barda finally able to get back under the tree now that we've opened presents. The Charles De Lint & Mira Grant are limited runs from Subterranean Press. Merry Christmas!
