Little Fuzzy By H. Beam Piper The planet Zarathustra is listed as uninhabited - which means that the entire planet can be owned by a corporation. That owner is the rich and happy Zarathustra Company - rich and happy, that is, until a prospector named Jack Holloway comes across undocumented species - a tiny, golden-furred little biped that he dubs 'Little Fuzzy.' Not only are the Little Fuzzies cute, they're bright too - in fact, they may be sapient as people are ... and that means everything the Zarathustra company owns on this world is at stake... We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.

Bookwomble @majkia Well, I reckon I have another 20 years life expectancy, and a TBR slightly longer than that, so it's touch and go! 😁 4d

#acrossApril April 27: freedom day

In the classic sci-fi novel Little Fuzzy, and in Scalzi‘s tribute Fuzzy Nation, the protagonist works for a day that the Fuzziss are free & declares sentient beings to protect them from the greedy corporation.

This 1963 Hugo nominee was great! It‘s basically a legal drama about one group‘s fight to help a recently discovered sentient species gain the status they need to exert rights over their home planet. Piper escalates the tension well and packs in more characterization than I expected. I was genuinely scared for all the Fuzzies, and pleased to see so many characters choose to advocate for what was right instead of embracing the easy route.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I feel like this is a piece of classic sci-fi that I know a lot about without ever having read it. Here‘s a great Tor article about its permutations through the years https://www.tor.com/2018/04/12/cuteness-vs-corporate-evil-little-fuzzy-by-h-beam... 5y

I did a 10-mile bike ride this morning, which my Fitbit counted as about two miles‘ worth of steps, then took a 5-mile #audiowalk on this glorious, 31° day. I saw some pretty cars and finished LITTLE FUZZY before I started in on STARSHIP TROOPERS. (I‘m casually working my way through all the Hugo winners and nominees.)

I like it when cranes have flags on them.

I also like LITTLE FUZZY so far. It‘s way more engaging than my last dip into classic SF. #audiowalk

The was one of the best books I‘ve read in a long time! It‘s from the 60‘s and I can‘t believe I‘ve never heard of this author before now. I‘m going to go on Amazon and buy all the rest of the books in the set right away.
If you like sci-fi and you like cute critters, this is a must read!!
