Good modern Western mystery with old secrets from a dead Basque woman and a conspiracy for money. I have seen a couple of episodes of the TV series and this would be a good one to see.

At times, it is unclear in this story who is present and to whom they are speaking. Also, a certain event was broadcast pretty bluntly as a well-worn trope. That said, the characters are complex and fascinating and the action pretty propulsive. I enjoy the show but i am glad I watched it first as I would have been infuriated with the casting had I read this first.

KathyWheeler Just interested — what would‘ve annoyed you about the casting if you‘d read this first? I also saw the show before I read any of the books. 5y
Nebklvr @KathyWheeler Victorias character is completely off. In the book she comes across as ultra tough (and Italian) and on screen she comes across as whiny and irritating (and very white). Standing Bear is supposed to be this huge guy. I love Lou Diamond Phillips but huge he is not. 5y
Nebklvr @KathyWheeler Also as just an aside as much as I love the show, I am not sure how Branch and Victoria breathe let alone run and jump in jeans that tight 5y
KathyWheeler @Nebklvr I agree about both Victoria and Standing Bear. When I read the books, I was surprised they‘d chosen Lou Diamond Phillips to play him. If I‘d read the books first, I might have been annoyed about that. I also agree about the jeans. 😄 5y

This is a cozy mystery with extremely likable protagonists. Walt Longmire is a laid-back sheriff with a wry wit. Very enjoyable!

Bookzombie I love this series too! 5y

Walt Longmire‘s dealing with the poisoning death of a Basque woman in the depths of a Wyoming winter. Add some humor, a little meth, and some typical mountain west weirdness, and you have an awesome story. I love this series.

One of my resolutions (again) is to read the next book in any series that I've started. This is the second in the Walt Longmire series. I'm almost done watching Longmire on Netflix so I feel like I'm further along in the book series than I really am. Lots of good characters in these novels; I especially like Henry.
#catsoflitsy Nellie enjoyed the sunny open window this afternoon - it was a lovely 37F here in Minnesota, 50F warmer than a week ago🤗

Another great Longmire mystery. Liking the TV (now Netflix) got me to try the books. I love the relationships built between the characters in his writing.

@NataliePatalie

NataliePatalie Saw a couple Longmire books in the FF library bookstore the other day. 8y
Blueberry @NataliePatalie I will have to check that out. Though I read them mostly on Overdrive I do like to have hard copies when I like a book as much as I like these. 8y

Hmm... I think that was better than the first one. A few too many deaths and an archetypical hard-to-kill man mountain, but solidly plotted and character-driven.

There's a large supporting cast but it was light enough and meaty enough to look forward to the next one.
