Growing up my Gran told us stories about her high school English teacher who read poetry to them and took them outside to "listen to the grass grow". Mind you this is the 1940s in rural Ohio. She had such fond memories of him. At her Memorial one of us made mention of him in our speech and one of Gran's cousins said he owned the book that 'Pappy' Byers wrote. (cont. in comments)
