A Corner of White
A Corner of White | Jaclyn Moriarty
Madeleine Tully lives in Cambridge, England, the World - a city of spires, Isaac Newton and Auntie's Tea Shop. Elliot Baranski lives in Bonfire, the Farms, the Kingdom of Cello - where seasons roam, the Butterfly Child sleeps in a glass jar, and bells warn of attacks from dangerous Colours. They are worlds apart - until a crack opens up between them; a corner of white - the slim seam of a letter. Elliot begins to write to Madeleine, the Girl-in-the-World - a most dangerous thing to do for suspected cracks must be reported and closed. But Elliot's father has disappeared and Madeleine's mother is sick. Can a stranger from another world help to unravel the mysteries in your own? Can Madeleine and Elliot find the missing pieces of themselves before it is too late?A mesmerising story of two worlds; the cracks between them, the science that binds them and the colours that infuse them."A Corner of White is that rare thing - an astonishingly original novel that speaks equally to the heart and intelligence of its audience." NSW Premier's Literary Awards, judge's comments."It tugs at the heartstrings while teasing the intellect with its wild imaginings. A concoction of science, artistry and magic written with breathtaking ingenuity.' Queensland Literary Awards.

My book for 2012 is this amazing first book in The Colours of Madeleine series. Love it‘s quirkiness and originality. Love everything Jaclyn Moriarty writes. #tenbooksonedecade #loveozya #panmacmillanaus

Has anyone else read this YA fantasy series? It's one of my favorites, but I feel like I don't hear about it often. Beautiful writing, deeply fleshed out characters who are flawed yet easy to empathize with, lots of twists I didn't see coming, and the story itself is very unique. I really love it and highly recommend it! May need to do a reread soon! 💕📚

This is a really interesting young adult/fantasy series. I'm re-reading books 1&2 before reading book 3 for the first time. It's kind of quirky and the main characters are great. More than happy to continue on to Book 2 🌈✉😊

It's so unexpectedly funny. And warm-hearted. With strong flawed characters. Fresh & original. Loved it.

Absolute shocker...while re-reading A Corner of White, my husband walked in and handed me this home cooked dish. The man seldom cooks, so I totally wasn't expecting that. I think he's afraid I'll move into @strandbookstore once I get to NYC & won't return home, so he's bribing me with food. 😂 Nice to get to read and eat delicious free food! Also, I love this book...this is my 3rd time re-reading it and I think it gets better every time. 💕

Listening to this book and I find it so confusing. Sometimes listening makes a book better and sometimes it makes it worse. I can't tell if listening is making it harder to follow or if it's too convoluted as a tale in general.

Reading this great fantasy series right now. Currently reading the third book, A Tangle of Gold. Good stuff.
