I liked but did not love this murder mystery set in Depression-era Oklahoma.

It rained here today so we don‘t need a rainmaker, especially a dead one. Now it‘s night and I‘m going to try to finish this one before I go to sleep. #schnauzersoflitsy

I picked up this book at the 2019 #Ohioanabookfestival after listening to a panel that included Ms. Loewenstein. The setting was so unusual, that I had to read it! It was beautifully written and I felt like I could feel the dirt and dust on my skin. I hope more people pick up this great historical mystery set in 1930s Oklahoma.

Fascinating. Yes, there‘s a murder, and a search for the killer, but what really makes this more that the usual mystery, is the geographic setting and the historical detail. the dust storms are terrifying.

Laurie Lowenstein takes us Vermillion. OK in the 1935. The soil is blowing away, we‘re in the midst of the depression, and Sheriff Jennings, up for re-election has a murder on his hands. He‘s lucky to have the assistance of his wife Etha.

Historical murder mysteries are not usually my thing, but this one was fantastic! Loewenstein has a gift for writing. The scenes and characters practically blew off the page.
