Not as funny as I was hoping it would be. The title is a bit misleading, this is a collection of essays based on the author's experiences as a modern woman dating in a patriarchal society. She makes a lot of bold statements that I disagree with (she believes Breaking Bad is a bad show that only guys like 🤨) but she has some interesting insights into straight male/female friendships/dating/relationships that made it somewhat entertaining.

I enjoyed this book. Made me feel like I'm not alone in this not so fun dating world. The humor definitely kept me entertained.

How to Date Men When You Hate Men by Blythe Roberson is a hilarious and insightful look into the weird world of dating as a semi aware person with a love hate relationship for the opposite gender. Roberson is wildly honest about her Timothee Chalamet obsession, but who am I to judge with my love for bagpipes. She's funny, deep, smart, and intensely real.

This book isn‘t bad; it‘s a mildly entertaining autobiographical account of one woman‘s dating woes. I guess I was expecting a well-researched sociological commentary on dating as a woman in the context of women‘s rights and the me-too movement. This book lightly touched on some of those themes, but not enough for me.

I really liked this book. Navigating love and dating and the patriarchy as a strong, feminist millennial woman is a unique challenge for our generation. I didn‘t agree with all her assessments and observations (“It‘s impossible to define dates! It‘s meaningless anyway!” Eh?) but there were some that were spot on and she presented some things in ways I hadn‘t considered before. Overall I enjoyed it.

j9brown I just love the title 🤣 5y

I won this in a goodreads giveaway, which was probably the most exciting part about reading this. The title and cover are obviously 10/10 but the content felt a little all over the place. I did enjoy her sense of humor and her conversational writing style but it was heavier on the memoir and lighter on the “comedy philosophy” than I expected.

My second bail in 24 hours! I think my lack of reading time is making me way choosier...

While not a how-to guide, the idea of the book is to hilariously detail the evolution of a relationship with a guy when you‘re not exactly thrilled with men, or the way some men treat women. Maybe I‘m too old for the humor - if I started to count the word “like” in sentences, then I knew I was in trouble. I‘m setting this one to the side...

As the youths say, I felt seen on nearly every page of this book. While this is more of a memoir of Roberson‘s dating misadventures than a guide, the majority of her experiences resonated with me (a single feminist trying to navigate the world of dating). Specific sections felt like they came from my head; for example, “Interesting Topics to Think and Talk About That Are Not Some Dude You Hung Out With Two-and-a-Half Times but Never Kissed.”
