I‘m recommending this. It‘s heartbreaking but its a true account of what it was like being taken from your home, your people, your culture in an effort to assimilate you into a society. Cardinal‘s life with her sister brough up away from her Native language and family had life long consequences and she bravely discusses them in this book.

Started this today and already I‘m in my emotions. This is going to be very raw! Colleen and her sisters were taken from their homes and put in the families of non-Native white people and the effects of that are felt throughout her and her sister‘s life. So much history in this already.

Ddzmini Sad what was done to America Indian Families from start to finish but we can say that about most races 😰 6y
TheNextBook @Ddzmini She was born in Canada and this talks a lot about the relocation of Native children during the 60s and 70s which is what happened to her. So disappointing but learning a lot. Her story is heart breaking. 6y
Ddzmini Yes in the Culture class I just finished it discussed how American Indian Children where sent to orphanages or boarding schools because the government as a way of controlling them it‘s really sad all around 6y
