Passing Bells
Passing Bells | Phillip Rock
7 posts | 4 read | 16 to read
Before Downton Abbey, there was Abingdon Pryory, the elegant country home of the Grevilles a titled English family who, along with their servants, see their world turned upside down when England goes to war. Once their well-kept lawns and whirling social seasons give way to the horrors of World War I, no one, upstairs or downstairs, is left untouched. For fans of sweeping historical fiction, the reissue of Phillip Rock's New York Times bestseller The Passing Bells is a breathtaking family saga not to be missed."

#DecemberDreams

For today‘s #Bells prompt, I thought of this series, The Passing Bells Trilogy that I read (a decade ago according to Goodreads! 😱). It‘s about an upper-class British family from just before WWI through the Jazz age. Very Downton Abbey-esque although it was first published in 1978 so it preceded it. 😉

It‘s funny, I used these same books and a similar shot two years ago for a prompt & only realized it when I went to post this one. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, I reviewed this book series for a book tour, drawn in by the Downton Abbey-like setting & family. In this sweeping saga I‘m sure at least one person wondered #DidIMakeTheMostOfLovingYou ?

CrowCAH Certainly off the cover models seems to take place during the same time period as Downton Abbey! 5y

"Before there was Downton Abbey, there was Abingdon Pryory..." This trilogy follows the Greville family & their household staff who reside at their English country estate, Abingdon Pryory, from the Great War, through the jazz age and into WWII. These books came out in the 70s & 80s but were reissued with Downton Abbey's massive success & the interest in British sweeping family sagas.

emilyhaldi I still need to watch Downtown Abbey 😬 so maybe when I do it I will read this trilogy!! Sounds great 👍🏻 7y
