Pet Peeve:

I absolutely HATE ambiguous endings, where the author leaves it to the reader to "interpret" how the story ends.
To me that's a cop out and a sign of lazy writing. I feel the author has painted themselves into a corner, and would rather give their book no ending than risk a bad one.

Second worst is the unreliable narrator. I will stop reading a book if I come on that overused, tired trope.

Ruthiella I often love ambiguous endings…depends on the book, but I sometimes like having the room to decide for myself. 1y
Bklover I agree with both points! 1y
Reggie I am more forgiving on the ambiguous ending if I am reading horror. And I still love the unreliable narrator. Lol, I shouldn‘t, but I still do. It‘s everywhere. 1y
BookmarkTavern Unreliable narrators, if done really well, can be interesting, but most of the time I‘ve really disliked the ones I‘ve read. Thanks for answering! 1y
ncayea I don't like long over detailed sentences to describe something. 1y
