Aristotle "Aris" Thibodeau is 12.5 years old and destined for greatness. Ever since her fathers death, however, shes been stuck in the small town of Kanuga, Georgia, where she has to manage her mother Dianes floundering love life and dubious commitment to her job as an English professor. Not to mention co-parenting a little brother who hogs all the therapy money. Luckily, Aris has a plan. Following the advice laid out in Write a Novel in Thirty Days! she sets out to pen a bestseller using her charmingly dysfunctional family as material. If the Mom-character, Diane, would ditch online dating and accept that the perfect man is clearly the handyman/nanny-character, Penn MacGuffin, Aris would have the essential romance for her plot (and a father in her real life). But when a random accident uncovers a dark part of Thibodeau family history, Aris is forced to confront the fact that sometimes in lifeas in great literaturethings might not work out exactly as planned. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pushing forward with my novella The Contestants!!

I originally set out to create a novel but I am not one to waste words or provide “fillers” just to reach an expected page count or total number of words. Thus my decision to be content with a novella instead!

All chapters are now basically constructed and I am in the process of solidifying characters and editing.

This has been such an enjoyable (yet difficult!) process already!

LiteraryinPA Good for you! You can do it! 4y
My.heart.is.lit That‘s awesome! 4y

So a couple of weeks ago I decided I should attempt writing my own novel!

I have never tackled such a huge task but am so proud of myself for sticking with it!

I gave myself a soft deadline of the end of August to have my roughest roughy draft complete so we shall see. I am happy with my progress thus far.

I know there must be littens who are writers out there! Any words of advice for an aspiring author like myself? Thanks in advance!

BookmarkTavern Don‘t be afraid to write out of order! I would always get so bogged down and disheartened when I couldn‘t get from a to b to c. So I started writing bits and pieces wherever I felt the urge! 😁 Good luck! 4y
KristenDuck @ozma.of.oz thank you! Yes I tend to like things very linear but am learning to be more flexible. 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Way to go! 🤘😆🤘 4y

wanderinglynn Just write. Don‘t worry about grammar or spelling. Just get it on the page. The rest can be sorted out in editing. Also, you might check out NaNoWriMo.org (National Novel Writing Month). It has a lot of tools & advice. 4y
KristenDuck @wanderinglynn thank you!! I actually just had a friend recommend this to me. It‘s funny how much you don‘t know until someone tells you about it! 4y
RainyDayReading A piece of advice that helps me is knowing that the first draft is you telling the story to yourself. It doesn‘t have to be perfect, but in order to make it better you have to put the words on the page 😁 I second checking out NanoWrimo. 4y

Calling all Littens! My cousin, Meghan Godwin, wrote a book for the Launchpad Manuscript Contest and made the top 75! This means if she receives enough pre-orders, Inkshares will publish her book. All you have to do is click on the link below & pre-order a copy to help get her book published. The book is described as Handmaid's Tale meets Girl Interrupted, and I really want to read it, so please order a copy!

Amandajoy Here's the link! Also if the book doesn't get published, your money will be refunded. https://www.inkshares.com/books/eudaimonia-48b598 7y

What a quirky book. I usually hate precocious child narrators, but Aris made this novel what it is.

Today's reading material is my novel manuscript.

[Note: Line editing is better with homemade pumpkin muffins and kombucha.]

Mehso-so

I was unimpressed with this book. Both the adult and young characters grated on me, and their whole dynamic didn't seem plausible. It's annoying to waste time reading mediocre books when there are so many amazing ones out there!

Perfect summer reading! A joyful trip to tween years with a smart and hilarious narrator. Lots of mock, amusing writing advice for those of you who like the "how to" genre.

Fun read !
12 yo narrator

LiteraryinPA I haven't heard of this one, but it sounds really interesting! Added it to my list. :) I teach 7th grade English; do you think it's good for that age group? 9y
tpixie The narrator is 12.5 yo. read first. My kids are grown and I didn't read it with that critique of age appropriateness in mind. Hmm. I think I now remember a fumbling up the shirt kissing scene. 9y
Pelican71 I love this! I'm guilty of not always reading the prologue. 8y
tpixie Funny little blurb, right? 8y
