Interesting plot set in a grimy, grotesque future. The visuals and disjointed plot brought to mind the David Cronenberg movie eXistenZ. Really the sort of thing you have to be in the mood for. This would probably work better as a movie. #dogsoflitsy

I read this book aloud to my partner over the last many months. It was so weird and wonderful I am almost at a loss of what to say. A post-apocalyptic dystopian tale - rebellious back-to-the-land clones who regenerate themselves meet flu ridden urban apocalypse survivors and hijinks ensue. Women turn into fish is elevators. People have catsuits that are somehow alive. I don't know what else to say. It's brilliant if you like weird, smart writing.
In an apocalyptic world where most men have died of the mysterious tiger flu, teenage Kora and healer Kirilow fight to find new “starfish,” women who regenerate organs for others, before their cloned colony of sisters dies out too.

Current read aloud book. I'm reading to my partner as we drive home from Thanksgiving. #queerbooks
I am very pleased to see that Larissa Lai has won the Lammy for lesbian fiction. Speculative fiction at its powerful best. #LGBTQ #CanadianAuthor
I love getting dropped into the middle of an unfamiliar world & then puzzling out what‘s going on. Larissa Lai immerses us in her vision of southwestern British Columbia, 127 years hence. It‘s post oil, post earthquakes, post Chinese takeover. The imaginative bio technology & the distorted snippets of pop culture are just some of the delights in this dark—yet hopeful—lesbian feminist cyberpunk tale, told in alternating viewpoints. #LGBTQ #Canadian
Not that I‘ve ever seen headlights, but I know the songs. Maybe you can wash my car, yes, I‘m gonna flee a star. I know what stars are. They twinkle a little. They light up my wife. I know what cars are too. They are what people from the time before used to get around, instead of walking. They doubled as wheelbarrows, for transporting food and herbs and found treasures.

…through the massive Eastern Night Market. At its edges there are hawkers selling tea eggs & radish cakes from small carts with charcoal braziers, disposable shoes & clothing from the UMK, zeptocameras, DIY heart bypass kits, foldable motorcycles, while-you-wait genetically tailored pets.
Book synchronicity; my current nonfiction read (How to Change your Mind by Michael Pollan) about mind altering mushrooms was at the point of discussing the mycorrhizal net when I left off to start this novel. 🍄
Afternoon reading: What a cover! 🐅 🔥🤘🏻
Two books (#ScienceFiction and #Poetry) sent to me recently to review for my blog. Both are by queer Asian Canadian writers! #QueerBooks #CanLit
