Shortlisted for the 2017 Text Prize Lottie collects dead creatures and lovingly cares for them, hoping to preserve them, to save them from disintegration. Her father understandsLottie has a scientific mind, he thinks. Her aunt wants it to stop, and she goes to cruel lengths to make sure it does. And her mother? Lotties mother died long ago. And Lottie is searching for a way to be close to her. The Art of Taxidermy is a heartbreaking verse novel exploring love and death, grief and beauty, and the ways we try to make sense of it all. Sharon Kernot writes poetry and fiction. Her work has appeared in a variety of journals, magazines and anthologies including Island, Mascara Literary Journal, Best Australian Poems, and Australian Love Stories. Completely mesmerising, fresh and unexpected. Diana Sweeney, winner of 2013 Text Prize An intense exploration of grief. Steven Herrick

A tender, beautiful meditation on loss, grief and healing. The verse format works wonderfully in its simplicity and every word is sharp and pristine and perfectly chosen.

LeahBergen It sounds lovely. 5y

This was my first verse novel, so I wasn't sure it I would take to it. I finished it in one sitting and it was glorious. It's the story of a young girl in Australia who, surrounded by death, tries in her own way to make death beautiful. I loved it. It's one of the most beautiful things I've read this year.

With this one, I've completed the NetGalley reviewathon and I'm now over 80% :)

A coming if age novel written in Prose (a first for me). It was a very quick read, I might have to look into more novels written in this form. And how about that cover!!

#BookMail Pt2 is #TheYAChronicles July box which was Creature Companions. I love the Six Of Crows pin & vinyl sticker(which is already on my iPad!), the panda eye mask is adorable, but the candle, while it‘s very pretty, smells very soapy & the unicorn necklace I can‘t wear coz allergies.💁🏻‍♀️The book is a #loveozya novel told in verse. Set in a small Australian town in the 60s, Lottie is a girl fascinated with death after her mother‘s passing.

CourtSmall I'm currently reading it ....it's the first novel in verse form that I've picked up 6y
