Stopped at a used bookshop this morning to pick up Titus Andronicus for the #shakespearereadalong. But couldn't resist also buying these 1981 editions of Alan Garner's middle grade fantasies. After reading The Owl Service, I'm game to read more of his work.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Those are glorious! I love those 80‘s covers. 4y
merelybookish @Riveted_Reader_Melissa They are absolutely delightful! 4y
Bookwomble Great covers, great stories ❤ I live about an hour's drive from Alderly Edge , where Brisingamen and Gomrath are set, but I've not visited yet, despite wanting to for 40 years - I'll have to make it happen soon! 4y

merelybookish @LeahBergen No promises for when that review is coming. 🙂 4y
merelybookish @batsy Thanks! Garner is not very big in the US so I was excited. 4y
merelybookish @CarolynM Sometimes there's a lag between me buying a book and me reading it. 😁 4y
merelybookish @JazzFeathers I understand! I don't remember some books I read a few months ago. 4y

Pickpick

I‘ve never been quite sure if Alan Garner is as popular outside the UK as he is inside it. One of those authors who writes grown-up books for children - or should that be children‘s books for grown-ups? Anyway, Elidor started the ball rolling for me. I was ten. The book haunts me still.

Kimberlone Welcome to Litsy! 5y
Mistermandolin @Kimberlone Thanks! I‘m enjoying it! I‘m an author as well as an avid reader so feeling right at home here! 5y
Kimberlone @Mistermandolin it‘s a wonderful community! 5y
Mistermandolin @Kimberlone That‘s absolutely the impression I‘m getting. Friendly, intelligent conversation about shared sets of literary interests: doesn‘t get much better than that! 5y
Mistermandolin @Kimberlone I‘m really enjoying Litsy! Do you know of any other, similar, dedicated readers‘ sites? 4y
