Secrets don't remain hidden for long in this thrilling read from a #1 New York Times bestselling author that's perfect for fans of Kara Thomas's The Darkest Corners and Lynn Weingarten's Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls. Three years after losing her brother Luka in a school shooting, Skye Gilchrist is moving home. But there's no sympathy for Skye and her family because Luka wasn't a victim; he was a shooter. Jesse Mandal knows all too well that the scars of the past don't heal easily. The shooting cost Jesse his brother and his best friend--Skye. Ripped apart by tragedy, Jesse and Skye can't resist reopening the mysteries of their past. But old wounds hide darker secrets. And the closer Skye and Jesse get to the truth of what happened that day, the closer they get to a new killer. "Master of suspense who offers a sensitive portrayal of a deeply caring Muslim family. Plus, she scared me silly!" -S. K. Ali, author of Saints & Misfits

⭐️4.5/5⭐️
This was a great read! I couldn‘t really put it down, so I ended up finishing it in one day. I‘m pretty sure I experienced every emotion while reading this story. I absolutely loved Skye and Jesse‘s characters.
Honestly, this was a whirlwind of a story. I would have liked to read a bit more about Luka, though.
Overall, I recommend!

Three years after losing their brothers in a school shooting, Skylar Gilchrist & Jesse Mandal, see each other again. They use to be best friends until that day three years ago where Skylar‘s brother was one of the shooters and she moved to start over again.

Despite the heavy subject of this story it wasn‘t only about the school shooting. I was weary to start this after yet another mass shorting happening but I‘m glad I did.

That-Bookish-Hiker It was very well written and was so much more. I loved Skylar and Jesses friendship and how they didn‘t blame each other for what happened. I can‘t say enough good thinks about this authors writing. She writes strong female leads who reflect a different kind of woman and I really appreciate it. I couldn‘t put this book down hats how good it was. Def read this book. Great mystery/thriller. (edited) 5y

OMG. Kelley Armstrong has out done herself again.
I spent the first half of the book in absolutely tears. The last half was a whirlwind of trying to read faster because the unfolding of the story was outstanding.

Fantastic!!!

limada I love KA. She so very, very rarely disappoints even a little bit. 5y

Reading this book was HARD being the mom of two girls in school with all of the shootings that have plagued the states the last few years made this book even harder to read. But I‘m glad I did. This story gives a great message about perception, forgiveness, compassion, moving on, and acceptance.

Excellent YA book focusing on the family members of a school shooting. The characters were in depth and the book moved at a fast pace. I would recommend.

This book seriously played with my emotions at times. Throughout this book I experienced anger, happiness, and even sadness. I don‘t think there are many books that explore the aftermath of a school shooting on the loved ones. This book does just that. It was an excellent read. Definitely 5 stars!

I'm in a bit of a reading/life slump, yet still got some new books. The top three are from Thriftbooks and the bottom is from the dollar store.
So excited for the top two. 🖤

I was very apprehensive reading a book about school shootings. This book was not about the shooting itself, it was a thriller about what happens after (not just a clever title). This is a high emotion book, it deals school bullying, racism and is a mystery/thriller all at the same time. As a lover of all things Kelley Armstrong, I enjoyed it.

First vacation read finished! This is an engaging and exciting new read from Armstrong- I‘ve been a huge fan of hers for over a decade, and it seems fitting to read this one in the author‘s own country of Canada! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
