Mehso-so

Sarah Epstein‘s debut YA thriller has a strong first half that teases a supernatural explanation for Tash‘s memories of Sparrow and what happened to Mallory but Tash‘s claustrophobia read as a gimmick to me and I thought the plot got a little silly once Tash starts getting the answers she wanted. That said, Tash‘s relationship with her mum is well drawn and Epstein gives her a strong narrative voice so I‘d definitely read Epstein‘s next book.

Have you bookworms read any of these books? I just started Small Spaces yesterday and I'm enjoying it! The other books are the ones I have read so far this year 😄 I like that I'm off to a really good start with my reading for 2020 but know that it won't be the same for every month and that's okay 😊

MelissaSue81 I read dear Evan Hansen and really liked it. It gives a lot of context/backstory that the musical doesn‘t touch on. 5y

It‘s not my usual kind of book, but damn it was good! It‘s marketed as YA, but I was pretty spooked out throughout the book. Tash is a 16 years old girl with a baggage of mental issues, stemming from her creepy imaginary friend “Sparrow” who she‘s seen abduct a girl nine years earlier, but of course everyone thought she‘s crazy. 9 years later, the other girl returns to town and it seems Sparrow returns as well. Good idea to read before bed😱

Just posted on Instagram to say yay for the book community so had to share on litsy too. Very grateful the many ways books bring together people.

It was way to hard to get all these in frame but here is the pile of books-I-own that I read this year.

A brilliant Australian YA thriller. And a debut! This is definitely an author to watch. Get your hands on it if you can.

Lots of content notes, though: (very mildly spoilery): child abuse and neglect, animal abuse, a gaslighting psychiatrist, claustrophobia, fire. This is not young YA, there's definite adult fiction crossover.

JennyM That sounds awesome. I‘ll get on the hunt for a copy xxx 6y
