Ok I‘ll play, decided to do this off of books read in last year to slightly narrow the field:
1. David Mitchell
2. PD James
3. Martha Wells
4. Virginia Woolf
5. MFK Fisher

Wonder how this will change in 2019? Fun to think about!

britt_brooke Well done! Love the photos, too. 💚 6y

@MinDea Will you be hosting the #feedareader swap and whatever in 2019? If so, I'm interested in participating. Thank you for all of the work you do coordinating these fun events.

New read and early dinner! My first time making couscous! I didn‘t realize it was so easy. Can‘t wait to finally sink my teeth into M.F.K. Fisher‘s book of essays—inspired by the book THE READING CURE.

According to the Half Price sale sticker I removed, I purchased this in 2012, but it had been in the store (and marked up) since 1991!

ValerieAndBooks Love MFK Fisher! The Reading Cure sounds good— I checked out the blurb. 7y
catebutler I was just thinking about how I needed to pick up a book by MFK Fisher! Great minds!! 7y
EvieBee @ValerieAndBooks I‘ve been meaning to read her for so long! I don‘t know why she seemed inaccessible to me before but just started and she‘s a darling! I hope you enjoy The Reading Cure! I never pay full price for a book but I knew I needed it when I read the blurb. It was worth the $13. 😆 7y
EvieBee @catebutler Great minds for sure! Did you by chance catch the author interview on the Tea and Tattle podcast this week? So good! She urged listeners to read M.F.K. Fisher and Patrick Leigh Fermor for sure and ASAP. Oh and Virginia Woolf‘s A Writer‘s Diary if we didn‘t want to commit to the unabridged 5 volume set. I think I need that Persephone edition now. 🤓😆 (edited) 7y
catebutler @EvieBee I‘ve been saving the podcast, now that I‘ve finished I‘m finally going to give it a listen! I actually just downloaded a complete collection of VW‘s works on my Kindle. I have quite a few of her books, but some of the essays she mentioned I don‘t have a copy of. And yes! I think her diary is going to be one of the next Persephone‘s I order. It‘s been on my radar for far too long. 7y

#booksthatmakemehungry anything by M.F.K. Fisher. Most of her works shown here. "There is a communion of more than our bodies when bread is broken and wine drunk. And that is my answer, when people ask me: Why do you write about hunger, and not wars or love?"

DebinHawaii Great pick! ❤️🍴📚 8y
LeahBergen She's great! 8y
Posemn I love this quote. 8y
ValerieAndBooks @DebinHawaii @LeahBergen @Posemn one of the pioneering food writers! And she has a new (post-humous) work that I can't wait to read 8y

Reading this book for the #bookriotreadharderchallenge food memoir category. It's very dated, but lovely. It's a well-read library copy, obviously😊

MrBook Nice cover! 8y

Mehso-so

I wanted to like this book. It's garnered so much acclaim in food circles. And some of it was fascinating. But I tired of the food descriptions & wanted more of the history she experienced primarily in Europe in the 30's. That would have been a better approach from my perspective.
