#SleighTheShelves Day 2: To say that this would encourage students to dream up their own glumps, zantz, furless flatchims, and squishy squashy staggitalls – would be an understatement – very powerful book for educators and cool parents who are into misshapen – creatively-wrought-out creatures - #Silver(stein) was a veritable poetry master. Shel Silverstein is a master of poetry! I enjoyed reading his anthology of poems in Don't Bump the Glump! (P and RA), especially because they are so wacky! I can see kids laughing and wanting to listen to/ read more as they went through this book. I think it encompasses UDL Principles 5.3: Build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance and 2.5: Illustrate through multiple media.

gnewman It also supports ESOL Strategy 16: Integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities, because poetry can be expressed in all of those means! Poetry is truly versatile. In addition, a wonderful resource for this book comes from Shel Silverstein's website. It contains a description of the book, tells you where you can buy it, and includes three videos of some of the characters. The link is www.shelsilverstein.com/books/dont-bump-glump/ 6y

This P book by Shel Silverstein gives poems about the humplebacked mo, the gletcher, the pointy peaked pavarius and other weird creatures. I would use this book in my classroom as a RA before doing a poetry unit. I would have my students make up their own weird creatures and write a poem about it. Attached is some worksheets to supplement the story. http://images.barnesandnoble.com/pImages/resources/dont_bump_the_glump_activityk...

Olsonashley19 I would use UDL principle 7.1 and ESOL strategy 8 when using this book. #lae3414sp19 6y
