It‘s 1970s Sweden, but some things reminded me of Maoist China. Which shouldn‘t have been surprising because many of the characters are involved in SKP, a Maoist communist party.

Having an affair is tricky when you‘re married with three children and your lover lives with snoopy roommates. “Out for a walk” isn‘t a good alibi in a northern Swedish winter.
I love all the ordinary details pictured in this graphic novel, like taking off mittens in order to smoke when it‘s very cold outside. Tommy is a communist party member: he‘s got a tiny red star on his coat.

"Passion and politics unfold against the darkness of winter in 1970s Sweden." I kind of feel like that tells you most of what you need to know. I quite loved the drawing, but the story was mostly beyond me - perhaps I would have appreciated it more if the first two books had come out in English prior to the third in the trilogy!
