Check out my groovy Hemingway.
Ending the year with some early Hemingway. Hopefully this title will not be indicative of the year to come
The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too.” 🖤
As good as I expected. True to the title, these stories give a masculine perspective with strong male protagonists, ranging from a bullfighter to a boxer to wounded soldiers. They are often down on their luck & engaged in some inner (or external) battle. Notable that although published in 1928 the stories could have been written today - whilst the pace & manners of speech are old-school America, he nails human interactions & universal concerns.
And just like that, Hemingway breaks your heart with a sentence. 💔
Would you please please please please please please please stop talking?

The bullfighting and boxing stories were quite boring. The war and Nick stories and Hills Like White Elephants were of course better. But overall, so-so as a collection, and nothing really when compared to The Sun Also Rises or A Farewell to Arms.
Is anyone participating? #daywithoutawoman
I've given up by chapter 6. Definitely not my cup of tea and I just don't get it!
