Walt Disney
Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination | Neal Gabler
The definitive portrait of one of the most important cultural figures in American history. Walt Disney was a true visionary whose desire for escape, iron determination and obsessive perfectionism transformed animation from a novelty to an art form, first with Mickey Mouse and then with his feature filmsmost notably Snow White, Fantasia, and Bambi. In his superb biography, Neal Gabler shows us how, over the course of two decades, Disney revolutionized the entertainment industry. In a way that was unprecedented and later widely imitated, he built a synergistic empire that combined film, television, theme parks, music, book publishing, and merchandise. Walt Disney is a revelation of both the work and the manof both the remarkable accomplishment and the hidden life.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ At 33+ hours of listening (roughly 850 pages), this was way more than I ever needed to know about Walt Disney, but so fascinating! His start in animation, how his studio made it through WWII, and beyond is quite remarkable. The way he chose to cope with job stress, nurturing his mental health, and how that eccentric coping mechanism ultimately evolved into the first multimedia conglomerate boggles the mind. I wish he‘d lived to see more.

CoverToCoverGirl My siblings and I watched very little tv as kids, but The Wonderful World of Disney was never missed in our house when I was growing up. It was ALWAYS magical. 💜 3y
britt_brooke @CoverToCoverGirl I think you will really appreciate this biography! We are taking our sons to WDW for the first time soon and I‘m trying to learn as much as I can before we go. 💚 The history is so interesting! (edited) 3y

Thanks @everlocalwest for recommending this chunkster! I‘m listening while working on a Disney 50th anniversary puzzle (with lots of sky 😩) this morning. #audiopuzzling

PS. This is how I‘m getting through freaking omicron. 😷 I‘m on the upswing and feel almost normal today. My 2nd grader thoughtfully brought it home from school. He has fully recovered, and fortunately my other son and husband have avoided it.

vivastory I hope your recovery continues!! Also, fingers crossed that Champ doesn't eat any of the pieces! 3y
britt_brooke @vivastory Thank you! The last couple of days were a little rough but I feel so good today! 🤞🏼 LOL … Champ knows I‘ve got my eye on on him now. If he snatches any, I‘m throwing half his toys in the trash. 😂 3y
DivineDiana Glad you are feeling stronger! This puzzle looks like a great way to spend time with an audiobook! 3y

#shelfie Part 1 - Visible books are all TBR, behind them is a row of favorites. And, y'know, some more TBR.

Top - Realistic and historical fiction, nonfiction.

Bottom - Steampunk, superheroes, and the just plain weird or otherwise uncategorizable.

2015 was the year I went to both Disney World and Disneyland so 2016 was the year I finally read this brick. Amazingly will researched but Gabler's style didn't do anything for me. I also would have liked a bit on Disney's legacy but I guess when you're writing am 800+ page biography the subject's death really is where you should wrap it up.

If you grew up like I did watching Disney this is a great look at the man behind the curtain.

Taking a trip to Disney World this year so I wanted to know more about the man who made it all possible. I grew up idolizing Walt and the company's creations. This bio is a comprehensive and unbiased look at him. It shows the good and the bad. My feelings toward him are much more complex after reading this book. At the same time I have much more appreciation for his visions. Best bio I've ever read on him.

OTD in 1955, Disneyland opened to the public, and American parks were never the same again! I am fascinated by the effect that Disney has had on our American and global culture...I guess you could say we can't just let it go.

acg ...is that a Frozen pun? 😏 8y
