Pickpick

This book was really interesting, and I liked going on a journey with the protagonist! It was a well-written book and gave a glimpse into British India. I also liked how it brought up different topics like caste and class, and even prostitution and how hard it was for single, young women back then. I really like how the story starts with the protagonist as a child, and we readers get to follow her as she grows up and changes.

BOOK: A Man Called Ove (and the movie!)
AUTHOR: Sujata Massey, the tagged book is a masterpiece.
TV SHOW: A must-watch for me is Mountain Men. Mostly grizzled old men living off the land. The opposite of my life.
FOOD: Mushrooms. Can‘t get enough!

#bookrainbow #somethingforsept apparently I don't have a lot of green books, but this is more green in real life than it looks in the photo.

What I liked: a glimpse into India's history leading up to Independence. What I could've done without: predictable "woman's life" plotting: girl loses family; girl ends up in brothel; girl gets pregnant; girl gives away baby; girl finds love; girl gets baby(now child) back in her life; etc etc. skim this one if you want the taste of history.

Colonialism was and is so awful. The narcissism of invading a country and completely devaluing its people.

Hoping this is a good choice. I'm 0 for 2 so far with this last library trip. I feel like the library is my Vegas. 😉 It's the only place I'm willing to gamble on previously unheard of books or authors.

JSW Already much better. 😀 8y
BookishMarginalia I am intrigued by the title... 8y
JSW @BookishMarginalia there's a glossary in the front of the book that defines it. 😉 8y
