I liked both main characters but they were a bit similar and maybe should have a bit more unique voices.

Atmosphere was amazing! I loved this magical and a bit different world and that was probably the best thing in this book.

Writing was simple and maybe too so. This felt quite boring as an individual book. I see potential and how this series might turn out to be awesome but this was clearly the first installment.

Overall a GREAT series! There's a lot going on! You will not be bored & will always want to know what happens next! A few cons: sometimes there are some wordy passages, he tends to switch character perspective right when it gets good, A LOT of religious overtones - things that are sacred to some religions are flaunted inappropriately IMO, the love relationships are not fully developed/good moments are rushed through, BUT you should still read!!!

Because I finally had time to read on vacation! I got through the first four books of this series which is absolutely wonderful :) The writer I fell in love with him for his Kingfountain series and this just continues my infatuation with his story telling and world building!!

Enjoyed this one! Interesting world and intriguing story. Leans toward the YA side, but I‘m still interested in reading the next in the series.

This book was simply phenomenal. Jeff Wheeler is a master world builder. I loved how he combined the elements of Dickensian England with the magic of his previous series. The characters were all engaging and the multiple POVs were all equally interesting. And that twist at the end 😍 no spoilers but it made me so happy I could cry. I can‘t wait to continue this fantastic series!
