Ghetto Cowboy
Ghetto Cowboy | G. Neri
5 posts | 4 read | 5 to read
When Coles mom dumps him in the mean streets of Philadelphia to live with the dad hes never met, the last thing Cole expects to see is a horse, let alone a stable full of them. He may not know much about cowboys, but what he knows for sure is that cowboys arent black, and they dont live in the inner city. But in his dads hood, horses are a way of life, and soon Coles days of skipping school and getting in trouble in Detroit have been replaced by shoveling muck and trying not to get stomped on. At first, all Cole can think about is how to ditch these ghetto cowboys and get home. But when the City threatens to shut down the stables and take away the horse Cole has come to think of as his own he knows that its time to step up and fight back. Inspired by the little-known urban riders of Philly and Brooklyn, this compelling tale of latter -day cowboy justice champions a world where your friends always have your back, especially when the chips are down.

Amazing story based on real-life urban black horsemen of north Philadelphia and Brooklyn/Queens area, who use horses to keep kids off the streets and out of juvie.

SW-T That sounds really interesting! 6y

5⭐️DROP EVERYTHING and READ THIS BOOK! I can see why this is such a popular book in the library- a young boy stands up for what is right, and makes a difference to the community, and his thoughts arent ignored because of his age.

MrBook Added! 😁👍🏻👍🏻 7y

25 pages in, and already love it. Even with three copies, this book barely stays on the shelf. I have seen multiple groups of boys who read this book together ( I call this the Library Mini Book Club- a display that has good books that have 3-4 copies so you can read it with your friends and talk. It‘s a hit 💙). I snagged this copy when it got returned.

Chelleo This sounds great!! 7y
