I don't know if I'll read 4 books between now and December 21st, but I want to participate in this group and I'll read what I can including what I've already started.

Midwinter - nonfiction - Creating Black Americans by Nelle Irwin Painter
12 days of Christmas: poetry - The world keeps ending and the world goes on by Franny Choi

Not sure this was the eighth one to read today! We‘re still in national lockdown and I‘m missing sky and mountains, oceans and waves, meadows and marsh - and this made me miss them even more! 😥#nfn2020

Emilymdxn I LOVE this book so much! 4y
Mitch @Emilymdxn Its so good... and i unexpectedly enjoyed OUTRUN too - have you read that?? 4y

A beautiful, provocative meditation on the American Southwest. Nature writing at its finest. I love this book, very much.

If you‘ve never been out west, but wonder what it‘s like; this is the book for you. This quote is one of the best descriptions of Wyoming I‘ve ever seen. For some it is the reason we stay, for others it‘s a reason to get far away.

#6 A book about nature

I love nature, but not enough to read or write about it. I also don't have a strong desire to move from the city to a town 2+ hours away from the nearest town. For those reasons, I am only so-so to the beauty of this book. The author writes a collection of stories about her time in Wyoming after needing time away from NYC. The vastness and isolation she describes terrifies me, but I'm in awe of her courage.

As promised, I hauled this book across many miles and states to read it in WY. If I read the clues correctly, this lovely spot is not far as the crow flies from Erlich's ranch at the time she published it. She certainly has guts & fortitude for all the kinds of ranching activities she's done. I really appreciated the landscape & climate descriptions. I'm curious about the local (state) reception at release.

Jen2 Lovely spot 7y

Fantastic book of essays on nature. She writes wonderfully with sentences that just sing. You can feel the love she has for nature through those sentences.

I had to move indoors with my book about nature because it started raining outside. But I'm liking this book of essays about Wyoming, from the 1980s but apparently headed to reprint because I have a review copy.

Tamra I'm so glad you mentioned this on the podcast! My heart lies in the west. We spend 6 wks camping in WY & MT mainly and I'll read it there this year. I'll take a pic with it in our favorite (undisclosed) location. 😊 8y
ReadingEnvy @Tamra I've only passed through WY and would love to spend more time both places. The book really took me there. 8y

It's #Recommendsday! While I'm stuck inside on this cold, rainy summer day, I'm recommending this slim, gorgeous memoir. Enrich is a phenomenal writer, and this is a beautiful meditation on nature and self-reliance. Perfect for fans of Cheryl Strayed, Annie Dillard, Pam Houston, Alice Walker, Terry Tempest Williams, and Poe Ballentine.

Titania Love, love, love this book so much. I read it not long after moving to Wyoming, and it really spoke to me. 💕 8y
ReadingEnvy Ooh thanks, hadn't heard of this one. 8y
