"Chilling . . . A neo-gothic treat; original, richly imagined, and powerfully told." --The Guardian (UK) for The String Diaries See the girl. Leah Wilde is twenty-four, a runaway on a black motorbike, hunting for answers while changing her identity with each new Central European town. See the man, having come of age in extraordinary suffering and tragedy in nineteenth-century Budapest; witness to horror, to love, to death, and the wrath of a true monster. Izsák still lives in the present day, impossibly middle-aged. He's driven not only to hunt this immortal evil but to find his daughter, stolen from an Arctic cabin and grown into the thing Izsák has sworn to kill. See the monster, a beautiful, seemingly young woman who stalks the American West, seeking the young and the strong to feed upon, desperate to return to Europe where her coven calls. Written in the Blood is the epic thriller of the year, a blazing and dexterous saga spanning generations, and threading the lives of five individuals driven by love, by sacrifice, by hunger and by fear. They seek to save a race--or to extinguish it forever.

I couldn‘t remember much about The String Diaries, but I got swept up in this sequel!

The main character and her daughter from book 1 have been with the Hosszu eletek for the last 15 years, and are working on a fertility programme to improve the races birth rate. But the Hosszu eletek volunteers are not enough, and a new threat to their race, the Tolvajak, thought to be extinct are now hunting down their young.

I really liked that this story felt different than the first. Solid series!

Godpants My only complaint is I feel like he tried to weave a redemption arc too much into Jakob‘s character and like... he‘s a murdering rapist who unknowingly also performed incest so like... fuck that character FOREVER. 5y

I read about 100 pages of The Everlasting and I‘m NOT into it, so I‘m going to try the next String Diaries and go back in with a fresh look. I‘ve seen mixed reviews for this one, but I‘m excited to see where this series goes next.

comics_librarian Is that the Kobo Forma? How do you like it? 5y
Godpants @Jack_the_Comix_Librarian it‘s the Libra. I‘m really liking it so far, I treated myself to one for my birthday. I got it because I wanted an ereader that I could use overdrive with. I use it a few hours a day and find the life to be good, about 8-9 days per charge, which takes about 1.5 hours to get to 100%. I haven‘t used it in the tub yet to test it‘s H20 capabilities though.
