June stats. I read a lot thanks to a renewed appetite for comics (with a focus on manga), a lot of listening time due to a renovation project, and a depressed push through a bunch of short, engaging books.

I didn‘t have any 5-star reads, but I did fall utterly in love with authors L.A. Witt, Becky Chambers, and Margaret Killjoy, so I had a damned good month. June always does take care of me that way.

Pickpick

I read this at exactly the right time and now I‘m a great big ball of FEELINGS about Colin with his eating disorder and Daniel with his homophobic family and all the ways they support one another. This isn‘t one of those drama-filled romances with lots of miscommunication and shouting matches. It‘s about two people who see and accept one another, and who discover what kind of work it takes to build something that could last. 4.5 stars.

I broke with my queer books = Queer Beer tradition so I could try this 1919 Belgian Pale Ale from Little Brown Jug. It had caramel notes but an acceptable sweetness level (ie, almost none), and it went down real smooth.

I‘m still loving this book, too. The whole series is on for $1.99 each until at least June 10th, so I might have to get the other two as well. I do love a good tattoo shop romance (I say, having completed all of one before this.)

The bad news: my Kobo still refuses to download stuff, so I guess I‘ll be reading new purchases on my phone or iPad from now on. Poop.

The good news: I‘m loving this book. It‘s also got me feeling WAY more positive about first tattoo experiences than the last tattoo shop romance I tried (NEW INK ON LIFE by Jennie Davids).

The other good news: Superstore had cartons of Clif bars on sale, so I bought my fave and ate one for lunch.

I have this dream for the future where La TBR doesn‘t exist and I always start books the very day I buy or borrow them. Tonight I‘m living at least part of that dream: I bought BACK PIECE three hours ago (thanks, $1.99 sale) and I‘m all dug in.

It WILL NOT download to my Kobo, though, so I guess I‘m gonna live the dream on my phone for now? I sure hope it‘s a temporary glitch and not the beginning of the end for my ereader.

jpmcwisemorgan Fingers crossed for glitch! 6y
xicanti @jpmcwisemorgan I‘ve tried all sorts of things, and it looks like my ereader just won‘t cooperate anymore. BLAH. I guess I‘ll be paying close attention to whether books are DRM-free in the future, because at least I can download those onto my computer and import them with a USB cord. No such luck with this particular book. 6y
