The Bad Daughter
The Bad Daughter: A Novel | Joy Fielding
18 posts | 19 read | 11 to read
What first appears to be a random home invasion reveals a family's dark secrets in this domestic ticking-clock suspense from the New York Times bestselling author of See Jane Run. A hostile relationship with her sister and a complicated past with her father's second wife have kept Robin estranged from her family for many years. But when her father's new family is attacked in their house, with her father and his wife in critical condition in the hospital, she returns home determined to put her experience as a therapist to use to help mend fences and care for her young stepsister, who survived the attack relatively unscathed. It looks like a random robbery gone awry, but as Robin spends more time with her family members, she learns they all had their secrets -- and one of those secrets may have put them all in horrible danger.

Lots of twists and turns in this story. I found it a bit predictable.

In the beginning of the book Robin says her sister Melanie is "meanie if you take out the L " umm the more I read this sister chick is more like Witch if you take out the W and add a B. I feel sorry for Robin right now. Her sister is not nice! I'm waiting to see if she ends up being nicer in the end or if she is just a straight up B.

A new week, a new book!! 😊😁 Happy Monday fellow Littens!! Hope it's a good one!! 👍

Megabooks Awesome! Love the cover. 6y
SarahHarts_books @Megabooks Yeah, I did too! Not going to lie... That's one of the things that hooks me when picking out a book. If it has a dumb cover... I probably won't pick it up to see what it's about. Lol probably not the best way to pick out books but hey! To each there own, right? Lol 6y
Megabooks @SarahHarts_books I‘m the same way! I get really easily grabbed by a good cover! 6y

SarahHarts_books @Megabooks Well I'm glad I'm not the only one then!! I know the saying is. " You can't judge a book by it's cover " But sometimes that's hard when the cover is ugly!! ??? 6y

This was the first book I read by Joy Fielding. This was a good mystery. Three people shot - who is the killer and why? She had a lot of suspicious people and it definitely kept my interest until the end although I had it figured out early on in the book. I‘ll definitely be reading more by this author!

Exactly what I expect from Joy Fielding. An easily readable page turner that keeps you guessing til the end 🤓

On Sunday night, I‘m always trying to figure out the way to optimize my time before going back to work. Do I read? Play Mario Odyssey? Watch the oscars? So many decisions.

Clwojick She‘s one of my favourite authors. 🤗 7y
Skeebies05 @Clwojick Mine and my moms as well. Her books are suspenseful but subtle. There is always a twist but it is but it‘s never too over the top. My fav is Missing Pieces. 7y

I'm waiting for the twists and turns I'm sure are coming, but so far Robin wasn't kidding when she said "If you take the L out of her sister's name, you get 'meanie'." ?

Robin returns home after learning that her father, step mother and step mothers daughter were shot. She's back in her family home with a sister who doesn't like her and A brother who could be the killer.

This is a slow burn thriller. It's not the most dramatic of stories despite the beginning but it's a steady build. The plot is good and develops well keeping the reader turning the page. The ending was really good with an interesting twist.

This was my not one of my favorite Joy Fielding's books. Too dark for me.
The main character Robin comes home when her father, his wife and her daughter are shot in their home. His wife use to be Robin's school friend. She is constantly arguing with her obnoxious sister. Everyone is a suspect for the shooting.
I think what turned me off was everyone was pissed off at everyone else.
