Honoria Smythe-Smith, the youngest daughter of the eldest son of the Earl of Winstead, plays the violin in the annual musicale performed by the Smythe-Smith quartet. She's well aware that they are dreadful. In fact, she freely admits (to her cousins) that she is probably the worst of the bunch. But she's the sort who figures that nothing good will come of being mortified, so she puts on a good show and laughs about it.Marcus Holroyd is the best friend of Honoria's brother Daniel, who lives in exile out of the country. He's promised to watch out for Honoria and takes his responsibility very seriously. But he has his work cut out for him when Honoria sets off for Cambridge determined to marry by the end of the season. She's got her eye on the only unmarried Bridgerton, who's a bit wet behind the ears. When her advances are spurned, can Marcus swoop in and steal her heart in time for the musicale?

I'd forgotten how cute these stories can be. It's such a formula, but sometimes that's exactly what I'm looking for. On to book 2 of the Smythe-Smiths. #55-2023

I absolutely loved this book!
After reading the Bridgerton and Bridgerton prequels one after the other last year I wanted a break before I read another Julia Quinn book & I‘m so glad I went back to them & read this book.
I really liked both the lead characters, & loved their love story. I was really shocked & a little queasy in the middle when Marcus became very ill, not at all what I expected from a love story!
Can‘t wait to read the next one!

This is a 99p deal on kindle this month so couldn‘t resist. I absorbed it and read it in two days. Should I have stopped reading and gone to bed earlier? Definitely. Did I stay up so I could read more? Of course. 😂

SheReadsAndWrites I devoured all her books a few years back. Just plowed through each series. They're so good. ? And yes, lots of late nights full of "just one more chapter..." ? 2y
Mrs_B @SheReadsAndWrites I‘m glad it‘s not just me! 2y
SheReadsAndWrites Nope. I'm happy for her too with the Bridgerton TV series being so successful. I met her a few years ago at a writers conference and she is super nice and I love her writing. I remember chuckling a lot at the Smythe-Smith books - all the horrible musical events...😂 2y

After binging the Bridgertons on Netflix, I wanted to read the books. But there‘s a long wait at my library. So I decided to check out the author‘s other books.

This one is set about 10 years after the series. Gregory Bridgerton, who makes a cameo appearance, is at Cambridge. This book is a light-hearted, typical romance. It even made me chuckle a few times. 3 stars because while entertaining, it felt a bit rushed especially the ending.

StayCurious The Other Smythe-Smith books are great as well! 4y

#quotsyjune19 @TK-421 #music “The Smythe-Smith musicale. Thankfully, it only came around just once per year, because Hyacinth was quite certain it would take a full twelve months for her ears to recover.” In the fabulous world of Julia Quinn‘s Regency England, one family is infamous for being less than musically inclined.

Lucy_Anywhere I love Julia Quinn's books - sweet and funny and perfect for a lazy day! 5y

This was one giant meet-cute and it was absolutely adorable. It also had some of my favorite character types (shy man, goofy girl) and tropes (nursing back to health, life long friends turned romantic) If you are a romance fan, especially of cute and funny ones, this is a definite recommendation.

Was so glad I picked this up, haven't read #JuliaQuinn in ages and it was so good want to pick up the rest of the books

juliannebenford This is a much nicer cover than I've seen on most of hers - my library has a lot of them on ebook and they all have the cheesy photo covers. 7y
NeverendingTBR @juliannebenford I've seen some of the other covers and I agree 💯% that they are cheesy and these ones are just so much better (edited) 7y

This book was my first experience with Julia Quinn and I must say that I very happy to have the opportunity to read something so sweet and funny! This isn't the storical romance that we are used to read, this book was an easy and super fast reading!

Last day visiting family, and before I head back my mom and I had to go to a bookstore. Here's my #bookhaul. Every time I visit a new bookstore, I look for a copy of Persuasion that I don't have yet. Found one.

This is a solid three star read for me (which is not a bad rating for me). This book starts the Smythe-Smith series and was a fun, funny romance. I liked the hero and heroine, and particularly loved all of the scenes and reactions to the infamous Smythe-Smith quartet concerts (which are a running joke in Quinn's Bridgerton series). My only complaint is some repetition; the storyline felt like a mash-up of Benedict's and Francesca's books.

AnnieReads I adore this series! But then I adore all of Julia Quinn's novels. 8y
Zelma @AnnieReads oh, I'll definitely keep reading the series. She and Julianne Donaldson are my go-to romance authors. 😀 8y

This weekend I'm busy making bouquets and corsages out of books for a friend's wedding. So this weekend's romance read is an audio book.
