A Little Princess - The Original Classic Edition

One of the greatest childrens stories of all time : This book was a favorite of mine in my childhood, and, when I returned as an adult to re-read it to my own daughter, I discovered it all over again. This is a story about a different kind of princess than one might imagine; a princess that is an orphan - lonely, cold, hungry and abused. Sara Crewe begins life as the beloved, pampered daughter of a rich man. When he dies a pauper, she is thrown on the non-existent mercy of her small-minded, mercenary boarding school mistress. Stripped of all her belongings but for one set of clothes and a doll, Sara becomes a servant of the household. Hated by the schoolmistress for her independent spirit, Sara becomes a pariah in the household, with only a few secretly loyal friends. But through her inner integrity and strength of will, Sara Crewe maintains the deportment, inner nobility and generous spirit of a real princess. It is a fabulous story of the triumph of human will, and good over evil. This story is a real classic, and needs no re-writing to be as enjoyable and readable today as it ever was. Ask my 8-year-old daughter, who has already re-read it twice. This is a work of art!

I really enjoyed this story and felt the same magical coming of age story as The Secret Garden. Sarah Crewe is such a wonderful symbol of strength and kindness. Even as she is thinks she has lost everything and is made into a maid, she perseveres over the abusive power and never loses her childhood imagination and hope. For her to continue to give to others, even has she has so little herself, is such a beautiful show of genuine humanity.

Catherine_Willoughby My favourite story. First Lady bird book given for maths achievement in school. Still have it 30 years later ! 4y

#Day4 #7Days7 Books #FrancesHodgsonBurnett I got a little behind on posting, but these were some of my favorite books when I was young. I loved A Little Princess & ABSOLUTELY loved The Secret Garden. The Lost Prince was a fun surprise read. I stumbled upon The Lost Prince when I was looking for the audiobook of The Little Prince, and listened to it and enjoyed it !

This was one of my favorite stories growing up. I loved the movie as well. I loved reading it again it's a very emotional story and teaches children as well as adults that you should always be kind and help those who need to be helped. Even in your worst time there can be someone in a worst situation than you. I plan on reading it to my kids when and if I can eventually have them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The #classic Shirley Temple movie A Little Princess was one of my #childhoodfavorites. Ironically, I have never read, or listened to the book until today. I'm so glad I found it on Overdrive.

"Are you learning me by heart, little Sara?" he said stroking her hair.
"No," she answered. "I know you by heart. You are inside my heart."

The fact was, however, that she was always dreaming and thinking of things and could not herself remember any time when she had not been thinking things about grown-up people and the world they belonged to. She felt as if she had lived a long, long time.

THIS was a my grand prize in today‘s adventure. I was just looking through the manga section when I found it! Not that the original illustrations were bad, but these are just so cute and I feel when my own Little Missus is old enough to read this on her own she‘ll appreciate the beautiful artwork.

This is my all time favorite book since I started reading chapter books in Elementary School. My copy is well loved and cherished and I still re-read once or twice a year. There‘s something so magical about Sara and this romanticized version of London that keeps me coming back again and again. It‘s the only book I know with a movie adaptation that REALLY compliments the book and honors it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
