Woman in the Woods: A Thriller
Woman in the Woods: A Thriller | John Connolly
25 posts | 17 read | 36 to read
From internationally bestselling author and "creative genius who has few equals in either horror fiction or the mystery genre" (New York Journal of Books) comes a gripping thriller starring Private Investigator Charlie Parker. When the body of a woman--who apparently died in childbirth--is discovered, Parker is hired to track down both her identity and her missing child. In the beautiful Maine woods, a partly preserved body is discovered. Investigators realize that the dead young woman gave birth shortly before her death. But there is no sign of a baby. Private detective Charlie Parker is hired by a lawyer to shadow the police investigation and find the infant but Parker is not the only searcher. Someone else is following the trail left by the woman, someone with an interest in much more than a missing child...someone prepared to leave bodies in his wake. And in a house by the woods, a toy telephone begins to ring and a young boy is about to receive a call from a dead woman.

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #SeriesRead2021@TheSpineView

One of my favorites in the series! This book had so many great things going for it. I loved the side story about the Grimm's Fairy Tale book. Angel and Louis are in this one as well and their relationship is tested. I enjoyed getting to see a more vulnerable side of them both.

I'm going to be sad when I run out of Charlie Parker books to read.

JoyBlue I have a couple of questions about the series. What's the violence level? Must one read all of them and in order? 3y
Addison_Reads @JoyBlue The series is pretty violent. Some of the crimes are descriptive and intense. There is violence to women and children throughout the series. I originally read several of these out of order and didn't find them to be confusing that way. However, reading in order now I have noticed a few connections I didn't see when I read the books out of order before. 3y
JoyBlue @Addison_Reads Thanks so much! 3y

This series is so good that I‘ve purposefully slowed down on reading it, because I don‘t want it to end.

It‘s always hard to call your favourite anything, but this is probably near my top of fave series. I love the mix of crime and horror and you‘re never quite sure about the supernatural happenings.
Brilliant series 👍🏻

Took me an hour to decide what to start this morning, nothing was appealing to me. Choose this eventually as it‘s a great series and never lets me down.
Brought this in a charity shop but the CD is still inside! I‘ll have to have a listen and see what music goes with Charlie Parker. Dark I‘m expecting.

squirrelbrain Hopefully you‘ve picked a good one! 4y
Cathythoughts Sounds interesting 👍🏻❤️ 4y
MsMelissa I hate when it takes me forever to decide what to read next. I hope one works for you. 4y

A mystery, a thriller, with a bit of supernatural. A woman‘s remains are found in the northern Maine woods, and signs she had given birth. The hunt is on to find the child and what happened to the woman. Charlie Parker has been hired to look into it and he comes across a couple with nasty intentions to also find what became of the woman in the woods. John Connolly has definitely spent time and Maine. I appreciate the detail.

In all my cozy clothes, no where to go. Everyone else asleep. The nice thing about the storm, is my usually very busy road, is peaceful and quiet. Every once and a while I hear a snow plow. Yes I am snacking on Cadbury mini eggs for breakfast. My first bag of 2019. I hope everyone is safe and warm. Happy Sunday 😊

MaGoose No snow here, but heavy rain. It's due to get really cold tonight and tomorrow so we'll probably end up with a lot of ice. Enjoy reading with the Cadbury eggs. 6y

This is the sixteenth - 16, count ‘em! - installment of Connolly‘s Charlie Parker series. And it still holds up. Connolly has developed a core cast of characters around Parker, & still manages to bring in new people that we just might see again.
If you like supernatural noir, treat yourself to this series. It will keep you busy for a while.

AmyG 16? Wow. I am reading this....my first Connolly book. You don‘t need to read the first 15 to enjoy this. But when I‘m done, I‘m going to look for those. So far, a very good mystery/thriller. 6y

Despite the April wintry weather, which is sure to ruin the mood around here, this book‘s highly anticipated arrival, turned our #SundayShutInDay to be amazingly fun! The best part about reading this in a day is that this is one of my favorite authors and this 16th installment in one of my very favorite series brightened the whole day! But the worst part is that this re-sets the countdown until the next book....

Fast-paced and gritty, this book captures attention from the very beginning and I enjoyed it tremendously. This volume sheds more light on the general plot while offering a tougher and bleaker vision but also interesting clues that make the story all the more captivating. The old characters mix well with the new ones and provide some surprising situations. The only complaint? I'll have to wait for next instalment now. 🤓
