Moonage Daydream: The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust | David Bowie
7 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
Widely recognised as one of the most significant and prolific music photographers of the Seventies and the only photographer authorised to record the whole of Ziggy's career from early 1972 to the end of 1973, Mick Rock's camera caught more of the Ziggy legend than any other. Rock followed David Bowie into hotel rooms and dressing rooms, on the road and socialising with musicians and friends including Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger. Also included are previously unseen images from the studio sessions for the Pin Ups records sleeve and the four pioneering music videos that Rock directed and filmed for Bowie.

How cool are these prints?! I love David Bowie more than most other things, so I‘d love these on my wall! 👩‍🎤👨‍🎤⚡️🏳️‍🌈🌈

MySharonaK Gorgeous 😍 5y
Connster @MySharonaK Isn‘t it cool?! I really want it on my wall! The guy who designs them on Etsy does lots of different artists and albums...I could easily spend a fortune in his store! 5y
MySharonaK @Connster oh wow I definitely want this on my wall as well. Bowie ∞ 5y

1. No. I thought long and hard about this one, but there are so many things I wouldn't want to change so it is too risky!
2. Yes. There must be, but what it looks like I'm not sure we can imagine.
3. Yes. It did not go well. See @Literary_Siren 's Carolyn Keene post for the story!
4. Yes, all the time.

MinDea Wow...deep questions! 6y
Bostonmomx2 I‘m curious about the story for #3 but I can‘t find it....can you tag me? 6y
TheKidUpstairs @Bostonmomx2 I just looked at her post, and there are a lot of comments! In elementary school I was tasked with writing a letter to a favourite author. I absolutely adored Nancy Drew, so I wrote to Carolyn Keene. Other kids got great replies for their authors, I got a boring form letter from a publisher. That's how I discovered that Keene was herself a fictional creation. It hurt my young booknerd soul. 6y
Bostonmomx2 @TheKidUpstairs awww that‘s so sad. 6y
wanderinglynn Thanks for playing! 😀 6y

Pickpick

I can't really give an objective review because I'm too much in love with this period of Bowie's career. It's mainly a book of iconic photographs, with the added dimension that DB has written notes for many of them, explaining what was happening, how he felt at the time or identifying other people in the frame. I particularly like that Mick Ronson gets featured in many of the photos: he's almost as charismatic as Bowie himself in these pics.

Have you guys seen that there‘s a David Bowie book club launching? How cool!👩🏻‍🎤⚡️

https://pitchfork.com/news/david-bowie-book-club-launched-by-bowies-son/

dariazeoli That‘s awesome! In early 2017 I thought how fun it would be to read thru Bowie‘s list! Glad his son is honoring his dad this way ☺️ 7y
monalyisha @dariazeoli I‘d still rather read a list of my own making than follow one made by someone else, but I think it‘s incredibly cool! I do want to read “The Brief & Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” (it‘s been out for so long now; it‘s crazy I haven‘t yet), and some of the non-fiction titles look really interesting (like “Transcendental Magic: Its Doctrine & Rituals” & “On Having No Head: Zen and the Rediscovery of the Obvious”)!👌🏻 7y
BookMaven407 Cool. Thanks for sharing. 7y
