Following a murder in Swindon Railway Works which is particularly gruesome the detective's have a difficult case. With at least five credible suspects the investigation is lengthy and complex. To make matters worse an acting superintendent causes problems while another is taken by force in Kent. The Swindon case was solved but lacked some credibility and once Colbeck reached Kent the issues there were dealt with. Will Christmas be a happy one?

Soft pick, I possibly lost something having not read any of the rest of the series. The historical detail about the Swindon Railway Village is superb. The picture shows images of key buildings of the village mentioned in the book. Even the editor of the Swindon Advertiser, a newspaper started as a one-man, one-room operation in 1854, is real.

Another cracking read in the Railway Detective Series. On this occasion Robert and Victor are sent to Swindon to investigate a naked headless corpse found amongst the Railway workings. The victim is quite a complex character and there are no shortage of suspects, this book kept me guessing to the end. A good secondary storyline was also present about Superintendent Tallis who we learn more about in this book. I now look forward to the next book.

Finally got to my seasonal read. This is the latest in the Inspector Robert Colbert (The Railway Detective) Series (Book 15). The series is set in the early days of both the railways and the police service. If there is a murder linked to the railways The Railway Detective is called for, along with his rail suffering sergeant Victor Leeming. I do like this light and engaging historical mystery series.
