Labyrinth of Dreaming Books: A Novel
Labyrinth of Dreaming Books: A Novel | Walter Moers
18 posts | 27 read | 24 to read
It has been more than two hundred years since Bookholm was destroyed by a devastating fire, as told in Moers's The City of Dreaming Books. Hildegunst von Mythenmetz, hailed as Zamonia's greatest writer, is on vacation in Lindworm Castle when a disturbing message reaches him, and he must return to Bookholm to investigate a mystery. The magnificently rebuilt city has once again become a metropolis of storytelling and the book trade. Mythenmetz encounters old friends and new denizens of the city--and the shadowy "Invisible Theater." Astonishingly inventive, amusing, and engrossing, this is a captivating story from the wild imagination of Walter Moers.

Mehso-so

It took me FOREVER to finish this one. I enjoyed the beginning very much as it gave a great update on the amazing Optimus Yarnspinner. The middle really slowed down and this is why it took me so long to finish. At one point there were several pages of recapping the first novel which felt unnecessary. But the ending was AMAZING and made it all worth it in the end. I hope for another adventure with Optimus Yarnspinner ❤️.

Sarah83 @rubyslippersreads do you know the series? 7y
rubyslippersreads @Sarah83 I saw one of them at the bookstore and was intrigued, but I haven't read them. 7y
Sarah83 @rubyslippersreads you should really start it. But start with 13 1/2 lives. I didn't like Rumo as much as Captain bluebear. 😂 7y
mellissimo @Sarah83 I like "Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher" and "Das Labyrinth der träumenden Bücher" the most. If you liked 13 1/2 lives and if you love books in general then you will love them! ;) 7y
Sarah83 @mellissimo I didn't like 'Rumo' so it is hard for me to start this one. 🤔 7y
mellissimo @Sarah83 Yeah, Rumo was kinda violent 🙈 This one is better! ;) 7y
Sarah83 @mellissimo and a bit boring.. 🤗 7y

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I think it's been a long time since I have been this mad about a book. I loved the two other Zamonien books that I have read. I enjoyed the intricate details described by the author. In this volume, the author completely went over board concerning the descriptions and absolutely neglected to push the story forward.... AND THEN... in basically the last sentence we are being told that the story really begins here... 😡😡😡

Brenley I am so torn over this book!!!! Like I love the Zamonien books and the previous City of Dreaming Books and the authors note at the end, but..... !!!! WTH?!! It was so maddening. I don't know. I can't believe we have to wait like several years for the next one!!! 7y
Kathrin @Brenley My thoughts exactly! 7y
readinginthedark Which is the first one? And have they been translated to English? 7y

Kathrin @readinginthedark The books are only loosely connected and some more than others... 7y

Walter Moers has some great characters, but the main character & narrator of this book takes the cake for #BestCharacterName. I mean, what name is better than Optimus Yarnspinner? #booktober
