The Story of a Nutcracker
The Story of a Nutcracker | Alexandre Dumas
7 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
e~How could you imagine, silly child, that this toy, which is made of cloth and wood, could possibly be alive?e(tm) The nutcracker doll that mysterious Godfather Drosselmeyer gives to little Marie for Christmas is no ordinary toy. On Christmas Eve, as the clocks strike midnight, Marie watches as the Nutcracker and her entire cabinet of playthings come to life and boldly do battle against the malevolent Mouse King and his armies. But this is only the start of the tale. Read on for enchantment and transformation; enter a world by turns fantastical and sinister, a kingdom of dolls and spun-sugar palaces, and learn the true history of the brave little Nutcracker. Adapted from a dark fairy-tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann, Alexandre Dumase(tm) romance of childhood imagination inspired Tchaikovskye(tm)s world-famous ballet. Brilliantly adapted by translator Sarah Ardizzone and illuminated by Kitty Arden, this is the perfect Christmas gift for readers of all ages.

I didn‘t like this and I‘m a bit sad about it.

My prior knowledge comes from Barbie in the Nutcracker movie and playing parts of the beautiful Nutcracker suite in my high school orchestra and neither prepared me for this completely different story about a story that‘s told to a young girl child who gets married awful fast at the end (my main problem is that the only way we know that any amount of time has changed is the phrase ‘one day‘ 🙈)

ravenlee That‘s not the original, although the original is pretty different from the ballet, too. Original is by ETA Hoffman. 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @ravenlee, I know it‘s not the original but this is the edition that made it a widespread success - and eventually a ballet. 5y

Using a free space on my #ChristmasMovieBingo card to watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Follow the hashtag for the original post if you want to play along!
😊❤️🎄🎅🏼🎥🍿

alisiakae The acting leaves a bit to be desired, but that movie is so visually appealing! I definitely plan on watching it again this year. 5y
GypsyKat @4thhouseontheleft I totally agree! Honestly, Keira Knightly grates on my nerves, but I‘ve always loved The Nutcracker, and the film was beautifully done. 5y

2 out of three packages that came today were books! These came from B&N. The hubs and I are expanding our Barnes & Noble Leather Bound Classic collection. The nutcracker one is especially beautiful one the inside! 😍😍😍 #BookMail

GypsyKat @tracey38 Oh me too! I‘ve seen the Moscow Ballet perform it several times, and each time is always magical! ❤️ (edited) 5y

Pickpick

Other than reading Hiddensee by Gregory Maguire & admiring the cute figurines found in stores this time of year, I am completely unfamiliar with the The Nutcracker. I really loved Alexandre Dumases take on the story & overall found it charming, however I did find the ending to be somewhat creepy due to the young age of the heroine.

Texreader Great photo 6y
KrystleTheBookSlayer @Texreader thanks, I may have borrowed someone's tree 😂 I can never pass up a photo opportunity! 6y
