Modern Gothic ghost story full of family dysfunction, a creepy old house, and ancient spirits. It's a slow burn that leaves you claustrophobic with anxiety at times. I thought this was really good.

I finished a #spookyread for #booked2018. 🎉
A family who are tearing themselves apart move into a charmed house in Somerset. Can they learn to live with the existing residents?
The start was intriguing & I quite liked the end, but the middle kind of dragged. (I came v close to bailing - just didn't care enough). Quite fun if you're after a haunted house type thing that's a bit disturbing/creepy/odd rather than scary. But not really my thing.
I appear to have started a #spookyread. This is not normal behaviour - I blame #Booked2018. But it has a big old house, and an apple orchard, so it might be right up my street!
Anyhow, have met about 6 #ghosts so far, courtesy of the children's author who used to live in 'The Hollow'. Whether they'd quite as benign when the new family moves in, remains to be seen.

This was a good ghost story. More creepy and weird than outright terrifying, it nicely ties in with the haunted house story tradition. Recommend!
This is the perfect entertainment on this cool and rainy evening. 😊
#TBRtemptation post 1! A dysfunctional British family seek a new life away from the big city. They purchase a home, the Hollow, in the sleepy Somerset countryside. There grows a peace and harmony within the family...until the house runs on them, threatening to destroy them from the inside out. Considered in the vein of classic English haunted country-house tales. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
#GhastlyGhosts
I've been saving these to read this month! 👻 Have you read either of them?
#Hallowreads
Not bad, but not great. The theme seemed universal, not particularly English - but since it was set in England I guess that's all there was to it. Don't spend a lot of time looking for revelations. Everything is spelled out for you. Creepy at times, but often just plain silly.
Another boring night at home...
NOT 😁
I enjoyed this. It started out interesting and became somewhat creepy but wasn't scary at all. Suddenly at the end things took a sharp turn and the suspense and terror were there. A psychological ghost story - worth reading!
File under "weird coincidences": I started reading this book, and in it, the family moves into an old home formerly owned by a famous children's book author, who is obviously based on real-life author L.M. Boston, who I just read for the first time a few days ago. What a crazy random happenstance!
